I thought I'd just let everyone know about a band that may or may not have much of a following in the US, since they're an odd, indie, latin-american/big-band group from Australia.

They're currently on tour through the US - The next few days will see them in Ann Arbor, Cleveland, Washington DC, Baltimore and Phildelphia - beyond that they've got a gig nearly every night for the rest of the month.

Their site is:

http://www.thecatempire.com/

And you can hear some samples of their music there. Their current album, Two Shoes was recored in Havana.

They're *very* cool, *very* odd and *very* compelling.

Well worth checking out.

I gotta say it again, these guys are way way cool. I went to a gig of theirs that had without doubt the oddest collection of fans.

There were the feral indie rockers, 'cause these guys are pretty indie.
There were the oldies, latin-lovin', beret-wearin' blues afficionados.
There were the pop princesses - these guys regularly get to number 1 on the charts here after all!
There were the sincere, music intelligentsia, who came for the cleverness of it all.

Everyone kind of eyed each other off nervously, but the music brought us together! Well. Not really. But the music sure was good.

If you go to a gig, listen out for "The Car Song". It's got me rockin' and hummin' on my way to work at the moment...
