I'm attempting to write an essay. An intelligent, well thought-out history essay. During the witching hour. And I haven't slept in days.

Now the letters on my screen are starting to blur. I know there's a lot of college kid Jatraqueros. How do I save myself so I can continue writing?

I don't know how you can save yourself. Usually it's my own overstress/overwork attitude that forces me to keep working hard even when my eyes start to blur and I don't feel like I can go on. I'm weird like that though.

I might suggest putting some caffeine in your body if you think you can finish the essay quickly. Caffeine would give you a brief burst of energy (although the downside is it will make you tired eventually).

Yeah, there are some people who swear by that. Going to sleep now, waking up slightly earlier, and then finishing. I could never do that. I couldn't sleep knowing my work wasn't done.

I couldn't wake up early enough.

I'm charging myself full of highly-caffeinated capuccino as we speak, but I feel as though the world's wobbling around me . . .

Do some jumping jacks, stretches, anything to get your blood moving and take your eyes off the screen for a few minutes.

Pound it out. Get it all into paragraph form, with enough detail that you know where to fill in more information later. Then go to bed. Come back to it later and clean it up. For me, getting over the hump means getting everything out on the screen in roughly the structure I want it in. Then I can go back later and fill it out and polish it up, which is much easier work.

Go outside and get some fresh air, take the cappuccino with you. Hopefully it'll be somewhat cold outside but if not, the fresh air should help. Come back once you feel a bit more alert.

Whoa. Just took a fall down the stairs. Waaaaay too unsteady on my legs. I supposed I'll head off to bed and finish on the morrow.

I was going to say "Don't load up on caffiene."

I remember what happened to me the one and only time I loaded up on caffiene to stay awake late at night.

Yeah, definitely get some sleep. Even if it's just a few hours' worth. But if it'll make you feel better, write out notes of what you want to say first.
