This is so sad. I'm glad my dad makes sure I keep up to date on my tetanus vaccinations-- and that I live in a country where they're given routinely.

I have a lot of patients who refuse the tetanus shot. I always ask on the first visit, and I tell them tetanus is still 25% fatal, even here, and yet some still say no.

My dad makes me get one if I have an exposure incident and haven't had a shot in the last 3 or 4 years, even though it's supposed to confer 10-year immunity.

I'm especially careful to keep up on mine, cause in the horse business you're always banging your hand or foot or arm or head into something, and those things are rarely clean.
