So are you going to give us a review of book 11, Jay?

I will:

I enjoyed it. I really did. Much more happened than in COT (book 10) and finally some answers started to come in. I don't want to give away anything, but I will say that I enjoyed the way a few characters who, up until now I had begun to despise, showed a real nobility, especially in the face of hardship and won me over. And there are a few who have become much more thoughtless, to the point that their selfish actions might end up helping the shadow, despite their alignment with the light.

That's not to say that it was as good as Lord of Chaos or The Fires of Heaven. I'd put it up there with Winter's Heart (maybe a bit better).

It was nice to see a few plot lines finally closed. But it's going to be a long 2 years for the last one. The last book will be one huge affair, both in terms of size and in terms of scope. He's set up a situation where the good guys don't seem like they're even close to winning. And Tarmon Gaidon REALLY is coming. The Dark One really is breaking free and the side of the light isn't near to being as prepared as they should be, though there are already a few potential plots that might change that. But the last book will have to turn all of that around. RJ says that if he has to go to TOR and teach them new bindings for 1500-2000 page books, it will be the last. Personally, I don't think that will work, but I don't mind if it's split into two volumes, as long as they come out at the same time.

I am excited to see where things go and how it ends.

Now, if you've given up on the series, I honestly don't know how you will like it. It has a LOT more action. But some of RJ's annoying habits still show up and he's still playing his cards close to vest. So I don't know if it'd be enough to completely restore your faith. For that to have happened, it would have had to be as dense as LOC or The Shadow Rising and as satisfying, which it wasn't completely.

But taken as book 11 of a multivolume series (that, admittedly, could have been a bit shorter- COT did not need to be a whole book, but, maybe, 20 chapters, along with this one, for example) it's a nice addition.

FWIW

I’ve been struggling to find time to read…. But so far I’m enjoying it greatly. I’m about half way through. And really hope to get a lot read this weekend. I’m sure something will come up though…… oh, like the dryer is broke and I need to take it apart. Or like I really need to clean around the house. Or like maybe I’ll get lucky and get a date. Ok, yeah right…

I read almost half of it at the local B&N three days ago. It does seem a lot better than the past 3-4 have been, for sure...

Not that that is saying a whole lot. [Wink]
