Well it is official, the house went on the market last weekend and we had a very successful open house on Sunday. We hope to be down in NC by the end of the year.

Basically, the cost of living in CT is just way too much and my company has decided to go the off-shore route and is downsizing our IT staff by 70%. My in-laws are down in NC and we are going down to take care of my mother-in-law who has MS.

My family will still be up here in CT and I will miss them but NC is looking better and better every day, especially with a predicted bad winter.

Copycat.

[Grumble]

I wish you all kinds of luck. It is crazy how much people pay in property taxes alone in the Northeast. NC looks like a vibrant, growing state, and I'm glad that you get to go be a help to your Mom-in-law. There seem to be a lot of things happening in the IT field in NC (Dell just came to the Winston-Salem area, I believe). Have you started looking for a job already?

Again, best of luck.

Yes, I have actually had some very good luck with the job search, even from a long distance. Many companies don't want to even talk to you if you are out of state. The blessing is that my boss did not want to lose me and offered to let me telecommute from down there for the short term. So I have some months to continue the job search.

And you are so right about the property taxes, especially in CT. I think I will pay less then half in NC not to mention I will probably cut my car insurance rates by 1/3 to 1/2.

My wife cannot wait as she just seems to be cold all the time. Personally, it doesn't bother me at all, the heat gets to me more so I wonder sometimes if I am making the right move. [Wink]

We will be in the Raleigh area and I would say that it is about an 11 hour drive from CT. I did it this past April with a 2 month old baby and it took us 12.5 due to all the stops.
