(From a different board, not this one, obviously.) Now this probably doesn't surprise those who know me, in and of itself; the curious thing is that the thread was completely unrelated to religion. And there were two perfectly good religious discussions going on, too, that I did post in. Seems they've tightened up the noob-protection rules a bit on that board while I've been gone. [Embarrassed]

KoM,
Since I don't have any context for your post, I am only curious about your reaction to the suspension. How do you feel about being suspended and will you modify your posting to remain part of the other forum?

Does that mean you'll be spending more time here?

(Link deleted by administrator.) My post has been deleted, but it quoted the second post on the page and added, if memory serves, "Actually, and I hate to say it, vipejc was a lot cooler. Granted, all he had was ideas and rather more self-confidence than was good for him; but this guy has neither. Which leaves him, apparently, with nothing."

Unfortunately, you need a bit more context to get the reference to vipejc and hockey games; let's just say, comrade vipejc did not need to post such a thread. He had quite enough ideas of his own. What he needed was someone who could program, to make them into the uberest hockey game EVAR!!!111oneoneone. On which, he, as the IDEAS MAN, would then make all the profit. But I digress. He has become a bit of a legend on that board.

Anyway, yes, my comment was perhaps just a little cruel, though I do have to say that six weeks ago not an eyebrow would have been raised. Mea culpa for not reading the stickies, or wherever they posted the New Order. Since it's a rather nice forum, I'll stay away from the poor noobs from now on. (Unless they post about hockey games; surely they can't have changed the rules that much. Last time that happened, the mods were leading the charge.)

KoM-
Is this a Canadian board? If so, then IME, hockey is a religion.

It's a games development forum. Nothing to do with the real thing. [Smile]

The rule on all forums is, be nicer to nOObs than they might appear to deserve. All forums live on new blood, new ideas.
Without nOObs, a forum just ends up transfusing old ideas back and forth amongst the old bloods. Eventually, the forum gets boring from being so predictable.

Whether or not nOObs initially appear to be lacking, someone looking at the conversations through new eyes not blindered by old view points and old conventions can be the impetus for great new ideas.
"90% of the answer is asking the right questions." Even babes can ask questions that should cause wisemen to ponder deeply.
Probably the main reason that physics professors bother to teach classes, talk with pre-grads.

This is presumably the reasoning behind my suspension, yes. [Smile] On the other hand, that forum does see a lot of noobs come in with posts on the order of "Im and my mates r going 2 make an MMORPG what program should we use for our MMORPG we have lots of ideas about the races". Except that I can't bear to do the kind of mis-spelling we usually get. I'm not exaggerating, either; there really are 14-year-olds out there who think there is a program they can use to create commercially successful MMORPGs in a few months' effort. Anyway, these kinds of threads get old rather fast, hence the sport of newbie-bashing.

I must say I'm delighted to hear there are other forums out there that banish people for rude behavoir. Makes me almost dance [Smile]

That said, we are not going to start bashing people on other forums here just because we can no longer do it there. Your post above has been edited for that very reason. And the link in your earlier post has been deleted.

Please remember the civility required at Hatrack. We are civil even to those not present to defend themselves.

I've seen that guy! That was hilarious.

I'm not sure what I can say that wouldn't be construed as bashing, but I'm all for calling a spade a spade.

This guy was more of a club, though, than anything else.
