Legendary artist Keith Parkinson has died at the age of 47 after battling Leukemia. If you've ever seen a fantasy or science fiction novel, you know, EVER, you've probably seen some of Keith's artwork (Weis, Goodkind, Cherryh, Brooks, Eddings, McCaffery, Card, etc.). You can check out his art at his webpage: http://www.keithparkinson.com/gallery.php?icid=1

There is a short message about him here: http://www.darkswordminiatures.com/
and here: http://www.locusmag.com/

(Note: those aren't permalinks, so if you're viewing this in the future, they won't make any sense.)

Ya, Terry let us know about Keith's death, he was very upset about it. From what I have heard from those who knew him, not only was Keith a great artist, he was a great guy as well. He will be missed.

[Frown]

Looking through the cover art on his site, I realize just how many of my books have his stuff on them, and that they are covers I really like looking at. Definitely he was one of the higher class of fantasy artists, and I'm sad he's gone.

I remember "The Gift", it was one of my favorite book covers....although not one of my favorite books. [Big Grin]

Which books by Card did he do art for? I glanced through the book covers on his website, and I didn't recognize any right off.

He did some very beautiful work.

I noticed a few covers for the Homecoming Series as I brosed through. I didn't look at them all, though, and they weren't in any order that I could tell.

How tragic! I always enjoyed the artist's interpretations on the Homecoming series covers, I thought they showed great imagination but you still knew exactly who the characters were and where they were.

It's nice to have book covers that actually, dare I say it?, reflect the book's content in even the slightest way. *cough:Ender'sGame:cough*

Yes, that was one thing I have always loved about them: you actually felt like the artist had read the story and made an effort to present it visually.

That and his women (and men, I suppose) are some of the more realistic fantasy-art figures I have encountered.

As an artist this saddens me. Keith was great. In the same league as Frazetta, Whelan, and the Hildebrandt brothers.

I'd add to that list of great artists, Royo, who has some great Fantasy covers. (The Troy Game ones come to mind.)
