Just came home to find the poster I ordered from the Browncoats store at the official Serenity site - a 27"x40" one-sheet Serenity poster, signed by Joss Whedon. Those of you who have been following my obsession might guess that this pleased me more than somewhat, especially when I opened it (carefully) to look at it and found that it had in fact been signed by the whole cast except for Ron Glass (unless I missed his somewhere). Were I not so manly, I would have squeed like a Japanese schoolgirl anime victim.
I had planned on sticking this thing into a poster frame, but now I want to make sure I treat it properly. Any poster collectors out there? What's the best way to display this without mortgaging my house to do so?

If you do put it in a poster frame, make sure the paper underneath it is "acid and lignin free" That will keep it from decaying. I'm not sure that those things exist in poster frames, but very likely, they do in lots of stuff. That's the scrapbooking rule.

I recently got a poster framed at Michael's, and I would recommend them if there's one near you. (Here's the poster.) It was a larger than normal poster, I got a nice wooden frame, and the whole thing only cost about $200. The thing is, custom framing tends to have a huge markup, so you want to shop around or watch for a sale. Michael's frequently has week-long framing sales that are 50% off the frame, 50% off the labor, or 50% off both. Call them early in the week and ask if there's a sale going that week, and wait for the 50% off both frame and labor sale.

Enigmatic, that was with a 50% off coupon? I really miss the custom framers that used to have a shop here, it was so good, and about 2/3rds the normal Michaels price.

Yes, that was with the coupon. I should mention that it would have been closer to $100 if I'd gone with one of the simple metal frames and the cheaper glass. The glare-resistant glass (or plexiglass, whatever) they have was completely worth the cost though, particularly since the poster has a lot of fine text.
The custom frame shops I'd looked at were generally a little cheaper than the regular Michael's price but nowhere as low as their 50% off, which I'm told they do about once every other month.

Yeah, we used to go to them aaaall the time. And you've SEEN the number of posters we have in our house!

I work for Michaels in the custom framing department, and my particular store tells you to get the sale, no matter how much of a discount you have to give them (generally up to 70%) - so never accept the first quote they give you at Michaels. We're often authorized to go down in price as we feel like it. It also generally includes the Highest Quality Glass, whereas they do stock a cheaper non-glare glass that, IMHO, looks just as good.
And yes, they are almost ALWAYS runing 50% off sales. NEVER buy anything at Michaels Framing without getting a discount. You're getting robbed if you do.
And you don't need coupons. Custom Framing sales are just that - sales. The coupons you see for them are actually just ads to get you into the store.

I didn't want to put holes in the thing. The tape wasn't attached directly to it -- I taped tape to tape, then taped that to the wall, and if you understand that sentence you did better on your verbal SAT than I did.
Unfortunately, the tape didn't hold. My current plan is alligator clips hanging from nails in the wall. I don't care how prohibited nails are, I'm waking up to Nathan -- er, that is, Summer -- glaring down on me every morning.

My son has one in his room - unsigned, we got it from a theater - but it's tacked up. I've already warned him not to attempt any late night swapping, even if he comes in through the second story and dangles downward, Mission-Impossible-style.

Let me see if I understand what you did. You took a piece of tape and folded it in half so there is no sticky part any more. You placed that against the corner of the poster, and then brought a sticky tape over that and made it long enough so it would also touch your wall. Repeat on all four corners. Did I get it? I once stuck shorter tape directly onto longer tape, so the sticky sides were facing each other, and then put it over the poster so there was no stickiness on the poster itself. It stuck on the wall but not the poster. Sorta like what you're saying, but without the folding.
Come to think of it, I need to do that again. I currently have a posterless room. The above procedure was for a landscape painting my brother did.

Opted to go for a cheaper temporary measure and get a better frame after the holidays. Or possibly for the holidays...
