So I've been on my 40mg dosage of Celexa for almost a month now. At first, there wasn't a noticeable difference (I went from 20 to 2 days of 35 to 40). I went to OU after changing doses and I was perfectly fine. I enjoyed myself a lot and felt really good. Then I got back home. I went through about a week straight of just feeling terrible. Since that point, I've been bouncing back and forth, usually staying in the depressed side more than the happy side. I sort of want to know if anyone else has taken Celexa and if they've had any experiences like this? I find my depression is going worse with each passing day. I see my psychiatrist on Wednesday, but I wanted some outside opinions beforehand. Sorry if this seems like it's rambling. I'm going sort of stream of consciousness here.

Yikes. Sorry you are having a rough time of it. Some folk respond better to a different drug in the same class. Perhaps it is thus with you.

Good luck at the doctor. Hope you feel well soon.

Yeah. When I'm on the happy mood side, the medication seems to take care of a lot of my anxiety and I'm better around people (heck, I've went out for fun with two girls this week, which something I haven't done in a long while). The depressed side though is worse than my depression was before I was on the medication. It's just not fun. I hope the psychiatrist has a solution.

So here's the news. I saw the psychiatrist today and told him about my apparent mood swings. He really couldn't explain it. He said if the Celexa was working like it's supposed to, my anxiety should be gone all the time and not just part of the time. So he decided to change my medication. I take half a normal dosage (so 20mg) for the next 2 days. Also during that 2 days, I start taking a half pill of clonazepam at night (and later on add in a half a pill in the morning). He didn't tell me much about the clonazepam other than to say it's supposed to take the edge off my anxiety a lot more but it can also get addicting. In place of the Celexa (after the 2nd day), I'm now taking Lexapro.

So yeah, a lot of medication stuff now. I have a lot of doubts it'll work. My depression has gotten worse these last few days, and I'm not entirely sure that it's all tied into my anxiety. I could be wrong though. Who knows.

Isn't Lexapro a derivative of Celexa, with better efficacy and fewer side-effects?

Good luck!

Oh, I forgot to chime in that antidepressants don't fix all symptoms at the same time. It might fix X in week 2, Y in week 3, M in week 4, and then by 6-8 weeks everything has improved dramatically. So your symptoms could have something to do with the fact that some things were improving and others were not, which in a way could make the non-improving symptoms appear more pronounced or more distressing.

I've taken both Celexa and Lexapro (although Celexa only for a few days.) Lexapro, I thought, was more effective than celexa, but that was just me. It changes for each person. I hope the lexapro works out though. Good luck!

I was on the 20mg dosage of Celexa for 3 weeks. When it didn't seem to be doing anything, I was moved up to 40mg, and I've been on that for the last month or so. I've heard Lexapro is generally more effective and has similar side effects to Celexa. So we'll say. Thanks everyone for the wishes of good luck. I hope it all works out in the end.
