In the interest of sounding more intelligible (or at least less like a neanderthal) there are certain words I'm eliminating from my vocabulary. It's permanent for now but I'll allow the possibility of reinstatement if I stop talking like such a mouthbreather. These words are:

I go through phases of overusing different words or phrases. Once in college my roommate intervened and told me to stop saying "And how!" because there was a month where I tacked that onto the end of every other sentence without really noticing.
I can't think of any that I'm overusing currently, but there probably are some.

I am a pleasant mother pheasant plucker. I pluck mother pheasants. I am the most pleasant mother pheasant plucker to ever pluck a mother pheasant.
Say it fast and maybe you'll see why I call not-so-pleasants "mother pheasants"!
But only when they are both used in a sentence where they are adjacent to each other such as: "Wow! Did you see that big huge duck?"

wicked awesome amazing hilarious ridiculous hawt - notice it must be spelled this way, otherwise it loses its effect.
adjectives are fun, but I have a feeling I need to expand my vocabulary. I have a feeling that my language is wicked boring and, although sometimes hilarious, has become somewhat ridiculous.

I got through the 80s without ever using "awesome." And then this past year I a) spent a fair amount of time babysitting for some friends and b) taught high school religious instruction, and, much to my dismay, have found myself uttering the exclamation "awesome!" far too frequently.
I am way too old to sound normal saying "awesome!" I need to delete it from my vocab.
I'm sure I have a lot of other things I need to get rid of but that's the most offensive to me!

In fact, these are my favorite words in the English language.
I've studied French for a while now; the closest thing I can think of resembling "tater-tate" is that it's a gross bastardization of "Tête à tête." Or I could be wrong.

I've developed the truly annoying habit of saying "Sooooo Gooood" with all the proper tonal inflections and accent, at the most innappropriate times.

I love TGS. That's all I have to say about that. I still say "POSSUM-ED!" or "ARROW-ED!" all the time.

I've also gotten into the bad habit of calling everyone Sunshine. Including my students and my mother.

I say "shaft" all the time. I got it from my friend who's english and just constantly says shaft, but of course with an english accent. So now I say shaft the way he says it, british accent and all. Everyone else must think we're just going crazy.
I apologize for the possble inaccuracies. It's very late and I just took my sleeping pills, so I think that means it's about time for bed. My mind is a puddle and all of these things happen in my imagination that are distracting what I'm trying to write. Wow...I should write like this more ofter. It'a lot of fun. So if you ever see a thread titled "Abby's wanderings" you'll know what it means. Nighty night hatrack

When I'm nervous I turn into one of those annoying people who say 'y'know' at the beginning, end and in-between sentences. It bothers me, but I can't quite get out of the habit y'know?

Honestly, I use the word "Honestly" too much. To be frank, I also use "to be frank" too much as well. What the heck? If I don't use them, am I not being honest or frank? But I'm never Frank, either, nor am I a Frank.
I absolutely use the word "Absolutely" too much.

I'm with Shan on this one. The words I use too much of I can't say on this forum. On mine I can, but then when it starts filling up there will be plenty of others that use that kind of language. Probably doesn't sound like a good thing. However, it's just a part of the work society that I am in.

that was my excuse for a long time, too, Stan. When one workes with a bunch of guys in maintenance, construction, sound engineering, or even mixed crowds in food services, one learns to swear wisely and well. *grin*
I've been in a professional office for several years now and just can't seem to break the habit.
Of course, using those more than once a month would be considered by many people to be using them too often.

And I mean "niiiice" just like that. The sarcastic, just slightly condescending response to any story where someone has done something either incredibly stupid or incredibly mean.

Especially engineering jobs. Or in my case, navy. No lack of colorful vocabulary there.

shut it folks guys insane here we go (I'm a conductor, I have to have a way to say "Ok, we're starting you dufuses!")
(the above I've been using with my high school classes WAY too much.)
Recently, my insult to siblings has been "You big dummy Lamont!" I say it all the time and I always include "Lamont." My sister's comeback is hilarious: "I'm not Lamont!"
