The Prime Minister dissolved the government today, and the vote is on January 23rd. Down here in Texas, I'm fairly lacking in Canadian political knowledge. Educate me. What is the sponsorship scandal? Who's going to win? What's the difference between a NDP and a Liberal?

I'm sort of excited, because I love elections. But I've never really paid attention to a Canadian one before. Do they tend to be more acrimonious because of the compressed time frame, or more sportsmanlike because they're.... well... Canadian.

Someone else should answer these questions, but I can tell you that this election is likely be anything but sportsman-like.

The NDP is much further left than the Liberals, who are actually fairly central in the political spectrum.

It's likely the results of the election will be similar to how they are now- A liberal minority.
