I've been assigned to put together an "ice breaker" for our office Christmas party. I had planned to get baby pictures from everyone on the staff and make a powerpoint presentation that would run continually through the evening and have a prize for the first person to correctly identify everyone from their picture, but I got ZERO cooperation - everyone was apparently born prior to the invention of photography [Grumble]

So, the party is Friday night, and I decided to do the old standby "name on the back" game, where I'll pin a paper on everyone's back and they have to ask yes/no questions until they can figure out who "they" are. I want to make the game a little different, so I'm going to use the topic of "newsmakers of 2005". So I'll use Rosa Parks, Katrina, Mei Xiang & Tai Shan (the panda and her new cub at the national zoo)...

Does anyone know of a good website that has headlines from the year? I know most of the major news outlets usually have a photo spread or something each year kind of summarizing the major news events of the year, but I suppose I'm a little too early for that.

If you don't know of a good website, please give me suggestions for "newsmakers" to use... I need about 60.

Thanks!

How about politicians and key business figures?

IE: Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, etc?

I know a fun game called, "Take a Piece of Candy". If everyone is at a table, it's easier. Have a pile of candy---range from a lot of "filler" candy to one or two YUM/whole candy bar type candies (lindor balls, york peppermint patties and the like). The rule is that no one can eat the candy until the end of the game (and you decide when the end is...)

You have a list of statements that begin with "Take a piece of candy..." and then follow with some wild, some weird, some funny statements etc...for example:

Take a piece of candy if:
-you've never had a filling/cavity
-you can do a cartwheel (have them prove it?)
-you have a hole in your socks
-you've talked on the phone for more than 3 hours
-you've watched more than 3 movies back to back
-you've got hazel eyes
-you're toenails are painted
-you've ever been to an auction
-you haven't talked on the phone today
-you only have one email address
-you have children
-you have a Master's Degree

I'm tired and can't think but you can come up with some great ones. Just brainstorm a list of a hundred or so. Go until everyone has a candy...they can steal a candy from someone else but can't eat it until the game is over. When you want it to be done, just say, "Here are the last 5..." or something like that.

It's always been a hit when we've played it.
