A little background. After running out of ideas for gifts to give my mother I came up with a good idea...2 tickets to see the Lion king. To my shock her reaction was less then happy. Somehow she's never heard of it. Well after some research, and after talking to her friends she's reallyh excited about going. Only thing is...i have to take her. Sort of not in my plans. what should I expect? This the touring version coming to Philly from June 8th to Sept.
Just talk to her, and she's very excited...Apaarently she's always wanted to go a Broadway level musical and wear a fancy dress.

It's quite wonderful. I was expecting fuzzy lion suits like the kind mascots wear, but it's dancers in African inspired constumes and puppets (not muppet-type, stick and wheel type). Facinating!
Oh, I almost forgot the giraffes! Dancers on stilts, front and back legs -- even if you don't enjoy the story, you can have fun just marveling at the skill of the actor/dancer/puppeteers.

I saw the traveling show... it is very well put together, and they bring their very expensive stage around wherever they preform so that you get the same experience as the actual Broadway show. It was WONDERFUL! The puppets are gorgeous, and the music and dancing is so much fun! It was very adult, too... nothing cheesy about it. Rafiki is a woman from Africa with a powerful and beautiful voice, and Zazu is a skinny man in an adorable suit! They did a good job in making the stage show its own entity separate from the movie, even though there are a few lines which are verbatim
