Why would anyone have a list like that? What kind of human being would make a list like that? I mean, I doubt Ed Greenwood or Margaret Weis have a list like that, although I could imagine Ed Greenwood doing it if he had nothing else going on some Friday.

Seriously, I find myself making weird lists just to see if I can. I keep thinking it'll help me see how things fit together, but really it's just a Monk-ish part of my personality.

Toril is the Forgotten Realms world/universe. The main continent/world is Faerun.
And making a list of every wizard to ever walk Toril would be IMPOSSIBLE. No really IMPOSSIBLE. It'd be like making a list of every human being to walk the Earth.. ever. You couldn't do it.

I just got my free trial for World of Warcraft and I'm trying to make a wizard, I went through, Fizban, Fistanditilus, Raistlin, and finally I settled on Geurrand, the main character in the "Defender's of Magic" Trilogy.
I tried to make a rogue gname named Tasslehoff but that didn't work.

Wow BlaYne that was unexpected, maybe you could've posted that in a less explosive way. No one that I know means to mispell names on purpose as an adult. (I have a double whammy that everyone mispells and consequently know what I'm talking about)

Just a thought, but if you want people not to mock your name, doing things like naming yourself after a Pokemon gym teacher are probably not the best way to go...

Log in to any MMORPG. do a /who. You'll get the name not only of every wizard in Faerun but every god, every major and minor character, and about 500 Drizzts.

Did you try "Fistandantalus" (ending in "alus" rather than "ilus")? I think I've seen it spelled that way in a few official (though very old) books.

In the Infocom text adventure Ballyhoo, there was a hypnotist named Rimshaw the Incomparable (it was a mystery game set at a circus), and if you typed >EXAMINE RIMSHAW you got "You see nothing unusual about Rimshaw the Incomparable (contrary to his title)." See, if you tried to examine an object for which the game had no specific description, you got "You see nothing unusual about [the object]."

When I need a name for an RPG character in a hurry, I take an appropriate name from the NES RPG Dragon Warrior IV. When I recently replayed Final Fantasy (in its Game Boy Advance version) I named my fighter Ragnar, my thief Cristo (not a great fit), and my white and black mages Nara and Mara, respectively.
(When I played Final Fantasy for the first time on the NES years ago---and remember that the names could be only four characters long---I used the inimitable names of Noah for my fighter, Bart for my black belt, Jose for my white mage, and Glen for my black mage. I think I got them from an NES baseball game with the same restriction on names.)
Boy am I bored today.

When I need a name for an RPG character, I either make one up or google for a list of names that come from whatever culture most closely represents that of the PC I have in mind. I then pick one, change it around a bit, and hey! presto, I have a character name.

My first RPG character, both MMORPG and otherwise, was named Iarwain-I just loved the sound of it, even though picking it was arbitrary beyond that. Tolkien-derived, most of you will recognize.
Since then, though, I've gotten more creative. I either make it up, or if there's a cultural background for it, I do like Noemon.

Well, for a real pencil and paper RPG played face-to-face with other people I'd pick a more fitting name. I'm not sure the original Final Fantasy was that great with names.
