On NPR yesterday I heard a major US Author, revered for his works, and often censored as well, espoused the following: "If Jesus Christ were on earth now, there is one thing he would not be--A Christian."
Any one want to guess who this liberal hate-monger is who has joined the modern culture wars on the side of the heathen?

It could pretty much be anyone. Um... Andrew Greeley? Any author who doesn't say stuff like that doesn't get treated well by the media (except Fox, maybe). You know that.

Of course, Jesus wasn't a Christian. He was Christ.
But I think all that Mr. Clemens meant was that Jesus would not be a modern Zeolot. He wasn't one then either.

Jesus was a Jew, and you saw how well he got along with them. I think Christ's behaviors towards the society he lived in was that he attacked hypocrisy at all levels. And I would never be so proud to say that todays Christianity doesn't have problems. If Christ were mortal today, I think he would have more then enough to say against Christiandom.

I know that the media hates almost everyone. I can bring up links of media bias on almost any group you care to name. Jews? Media hates'em. Muslim? Hated. Atheists? Hated. Christians? Hated. White people? Hated. Black people? Hated. Brown people? Hated. Handicapped people? Hated. Fat people? Hated. Amish? Hated. Italians? Hated.
I think the only people the media doesn't hate, or at least doesn't have a group bitching and moaning about it, are the beautiful people.

And the media itself. Although, I've often heard about how the media is extremely biased, and I didn't hear it from someone I know personally, so wouldn't that technically be from the media?

I agree Human. I think He would let some of the Christian leaders have it just like He did with the Pharisees. And He would hang out in the ghettos with the druggies and the gang members, not with the upper crust. Now THAT would be an interesting read... maybe I should contact Jenkins and LaHaye. *kidding*

I was raised christian and though I'm now agnostic I still follow christian values--mostly the ones that were important to Christ. I tend to agree with the notion that he wouldn't like any incarnation of modern christianity. The basic values may be there but the core message (tolerance, charity, etc.) has long been diminished and obscured.
And at the risk of offending someone I feel I should mention that western christians are amoung the least opressed people in the world. Why is everyone always looking to be the victim?

Yeah, I don't think there's a word for what Christ would be were he standing here in the flesh. I mean, he gets his marching orders from his Father. He does not need His sacrifice, which was kind of the point.

While I have no problems seeing him hang out with the druggies and gang members to help reform them, I think he would also hang out with the upper crust to help reform them.
