So I've got a three year old neice who deserves something special for Christmas. Her parents tell em that she really likes dressing up as superheros and I know that one of her favorite movies is The Incredibles (she likes to be called Incredi-Mia). I've done some web searching, but I can't seem to find Incredibles (or other female superhero costumes, except Supergirl) costumes in her size. I turn to you, Hatrack, to see if you can help me find something suitable. Thanks in advance.

How much do you want to spend? You could get her a red leotard and tights and black boots (you won't find thigh highs for a toddler, so just get some black boots from Walmart -- my 3 year old has a pair and LOVES THEM). Then get felt and make the Incredibles emblem out of more felt. Sew or glue velcro to the chest of the leotard (fuzzy side) and glue the itchy side of the velcro to the back of the I emblem. That way it can be removed easily for the leotard to be washed.
The leotard might take some looking for. I'd get her a size 4 or 5, so she has room to wear it until it's worn out, rather than wear it until it's too small.

Oh, and for a cape, just so that she has good swishing action, you might get a red towel and a set of clothes pins.
You could get fancier with a cape, but in my experience, the simpler you make the make-believe dressup clothes, the better. They will use their imaginations to fill in the blanks, and think of things you don't even dream of. If it's too fancy, it is only good for one thing. Where she might be many things with a plain old towel and a bunch of clothes pins.
addited: though if you really wanted to get fancy, you could gluegun plastic jewels to the clothes pins. Assuming she doesn't have a smaller sibling who would swallow them when they fall off (when, not if).

The problem is, being Disney, they don't seem to have any costumes for girls that don't have frilly skirts. I can find plenty of the boy's incredibles costumes, but nothing for little girls. I was hoping that there'd be a Violet costume somewhere.
As it is, I think I may have to go the making it myself route that jeniwren is suggesting.

Squick, if you make it yourself, you could make different emblems too, so she could be many, many superheroines. Just with a single letter on them, so she can make up who she is. (This has the added benefit of reinforcing letter recognition, which is really fun at this age.)
You're inspiring me. I may put something like this together for my daughter. She'd LOVE it.

Wow, I'm stunned... this was the only Incredibles outfit I could find at Disneyshopping: http://tinyurl.com/7csgq Guess it's too much past Halloween. I can try checking the two brick-n-mortar stores near me and see if they have anything left, if you'd like?
But I do definitely like Jeni's suggestion of making your own!

Goody, That right there is fantastic. I've actually really warmed to the idea of making some interchangable costumes, but I'm definitely buying that for her. Thanks so much.
jeni, Thanks for your ideas too. I think I'm going to go ahead with trying to make a pair of costumes, one red with some black like The Incredibles suits and probably one blue top with red bottoms plus cape for a Superwoman thing. The velcro with the emblems is a great idea. The way I see it, my niece can make up her own heroes and create emblems for them with some help. Thanks for your ideas and if you've got any more, please keep 'em coming.
You've all helped to make a little girl very happy.

So I ended up doing this and it was a bit of work, but it turned out better than I had any right to expect. I made her a full incredibles outfit, a full supergirl outfit, and a bunch of interchangeable stuff, like wristlets and leg bands and especially a red cape (I made it out of red sport nylon, with velcro tabs to attach it to the leotards).
My niece went nuts. Like not taking them off nuts and telling people about them and how she's going to go home and put them on nuts. She turns to me when we're in the car and says to me "I'm going to be a real superhero when I grow up."
So, thanks so much everybody. I really appreciate it.

Squick, that is so great of you! What a fun, caring uncle you must be - your niece is lucky.
If she still loves to dress up the next time it is a gift-giving occasion, play silks are a wonderful thing. They are basically large squares of colored silk in all different colors. Operaetta uses them as skirts, capes, hoods, etc., as well as to wrap her dolls up in.
