OK, not really crazy, they just surprised me.
My Dad's 81 and pretty much chairbound--he should have had a hip replacement years ago but refused to and now he's not very mobile, plus he has COPD (basically emphysema). And ya know, he's old. Sleeps a lot. Mom is 78 and pretty healthy and energetic, but you have to realize they are set in their ways and spend most of their time reading the paper and other stuff and watching TV.
Well, Dad just informed me this morning that they are buying some DVD course in Spanish and they are going to study it together. They figure it will bring them closer together and be useful.
Gotta hand it to them--I think that's pretty cool! And it totally surpised me. Guess old dogs can learn new tricks after all!

That's cool. I have tried learning languages through media like that, but I have never stuck with it long enough to actually learn much. I learned some German and Latin by studying them in school.

Hehe, that really is cool! Now if you could get them to write on Hatrack about it, that would be a record of some kind, wouldn't it?

Oh, my mother is a force to be reckoned with. Not so sure I want to introduce her to Hatrack . . . you'd probably all get a big kick out of her, though. She did read SF/fantasy for years, and like Ender's Game, although I don't think she read any other OSC.
