I love the Mozilla Firefox browser. It's so much better in so many ways than IE, and it's open source. One thing I really miss about IE, though, is the ability to turn off animations in web pages. I don't know what it is about my brain, but things that wiggle on the screen really bother me a lot. They draw my attention away from what I'm trying to focus on.

It's probably the same reason I don't like television.

Anyway, in Internet Explorer, you can go into options, under "advanced", and uncheck the box that says "display animations in web pages". I love that feature. Also I love being able to turn off sounds in web pages too. I can mute my system entirely, of course, but I might want to listen to my own music while netsurfing.

Is there any way to do that in Firefox? I'm pretty new to the opensource world, though I briefly played with Gaim recently too. Are there generally a lot fewer options and features in opensource programs? How does it work?

Russell? Other computer people? Does anyone know?

I found some options that I don't know what they mean. I wonder if it's in there somehow.

If I uncheck the "Enable Java Script" box, will that make my computer explode?

Do option changes take effect right away? Or do you have to close Firefox and open a new window to make them take effect?

Unchecking "Enable Java Script" didn't asplode anything yet.

I think I'll try unchecking "Enable Java" next.

Search google for "stop animations in firefox"

From that search page, I've gleaned that pressing ESC will make animations stop. I've just tried it, and the little graemlin that was sticking its tongue out at me stopped.

It looks like there is an extension you can download, too. "Anidisable." I don't have it, so I don't know how it works.

Wow, thanks! Why didn't I think of searching google for "stop animations in firefox"? I just hit esc and it worked for me too! [Smile]

But alas, it doesn't seem to stay that way. The next time you refresh or go to a new page, they're back wiggling again.

Try the anidisable extension.

You do know about extensions in firefox, right?

I'm learning. I installed the anidisable extension and then under tools->extensions I clicked on anidisable and then hit the options button. A menu then popped up that had a choice to disable animations, which I did. And now they're gone! And I'm so happy! [Party]
