Well, according to my Microbiology prof . . . there is no such thing as stomache flu. It's food poisoning.

Stomach flu can also be a virus. Food poisoning is directly caused by something you ate that was infected with a toxic bacterial (usually) substance.

Switch to clear liquids, keep hydrated, and when your symptoms subside, reintroduce solid foods slowly -- like start with rice, toast, bananas, and see how you handle it. The last thing you'll introduce is fats and dairy. When you handle that OK, you'll be OK to eat whatever you like.

Both are caused by pathogens that you ingested. Either from an infected person having their germs on their hands (usually from inadequate handwashing after toileting), and then contaminating something that went into your mouth. This route of transmission is known as "feces-fingers-food" and is the grossest thing I can think of. Or from food that was spoiled, or inadequately cooked. and had an overgrowth of bacteria. So you can get samonella poisoning and from an undercooked chicken (food poisoning) and then pass it on to other people (who will say that they have the stomach flu).

Wash your hands.

Stay home, call out sick. If you moan and mention the stomach flu, they'll be glad not to have you around. Hydrate yourself as best you can.
