Have you seen this?

Or this?

Just a few highlights:
  • The Hanso foundation could be named for Hans Oersted.
  • The Oersted satellite orbits the earth every 108 minutes.
  • The numbers will never be shown to mean anything, because they're just coordinates near Ann Arbor, MI, home of one of the writers.
  • The guy who turned Kate in (Ray Mullen) in Australia is connected to this whole thing.
  • They originally wanted Jack's father, rather than Jack, but since he died, they settled for Jack.
  • Remember in the pilot, when they crashed? We never actually saw them crash. We saw the start of the crash, and then the screen went blank. When it came back, they were all thrashing around in the water and on the beach. We have no real idea how much time passed between the crash and them finding themselves on the island.

The first link doesn't work.

The picture in the second link isn't there anymore.

The question of course is, have the writers actually thought that far ahead? Or are they just making it up as they go along?

I've never heard that they are coordinates near Ann Arbor. If you put them into mapquest as decimal degrees as follows:

Lat: 4.815
Long: 162.342

The position is somewhere near Fiji on the path between Australia and L.A.

I'm sure if the numbers were arranged differently they could be almost anywhere in the world though.

Here is an interesting Google Maps map when you type in those coordinates.

There is also lots of talk on the numbers being coordinates here.

quote:
The coordinates are then
N 4º 8'15", W 16º 23'42"

Central African republic

Which is apparently one of the areas on the earth with the highest magnetic anomalies, which further ties in to other info from starLisa's link.

Ann Arbor Coordinate

Matches a couple of the numbers, I may be off on something to.

I do like to double check a lot of stuff with these numbers. Someone swore on one of these sites that the 42nd word of the Jewish bible was Satan. Not exactly accurate.

Not even close. The word "satan" doesn't even appear in the Torah, so far as I'm aware. Maybe they meant serpent? I mean, they'd be wrong anyway, but at least that's closer.

My copy (JPS, which is in English) shows the 42nd word to be "God."
