In Norway, a woman's place is in the boardroom.

quote:

Ms Weir wonders whether her job - a profession requiring number-crunching - makes it easier for women to achieve a senior role. However, she is a reluctant role model for women eager to progress in business, partly because of the work-life sacrifices required. "The trade-offs I make won't necessarily work for everyone else," she says, adding that 90% of her time is divided between work and her three children with the remaining 10% fought over between her husband, friends and herself.

I think the underlying rationale for this law is that women aren't being given a fair shake in business. I don't, haven't, seen enough evidence for that that this kind of law needs to be passed.

I think this law is just going to force companies to either put women on the boards who aren't qualified, or create token board positions for women just to meet the quota.

I believe the under-representation of women in these positions is a problem; I am fairly certain this will not fix it.

Instead, it will create all new problems.
