I am a girl. I've had quite a few people tell me(not only on here) that "Tinros" is a very masculine sounding nickname. So for the sake of letting everyone know... here is "THe history of Tinros."

A close friend and I read The Silmarillion in sixth grade. In the back of said book, there is a listing of all Elvish name "pieces"- beginnins, endings, and all the fun stuff to put in the middle, along with what they mean. So we decided to give ourselves nicknames using those "pieces."

I've always been a water type... a swimmer for many years. So I chose "Tin", meaning shimmer or shimmering, and "-ros", meaning water or mist. Thus, Tinros= shimmering mist. My friend, being a bit of a pyromaniac, chose "Nar", meaning fire, and "-wen", meaning maiden. (FYI, Arwen means Beautiful maiden) Thus, she became Narwen.

There you have it. THe history of my name. If you want me to prove I'm a girl... well, you just have to take my word for it., cuz you're not getting any proof otherwise.

Tinros, I always thought you were a girl. I think...I don't really remember what any of my thoughts on you were. In fact, I remember almost nothing you've said since you've joined. Which means, basically, that I didn't remember that you even existed.

I wish my memory was better. And that my ADD was better. And any number of other things.

See, I thought it was from the ancient Sumerian:

Ti, meaning "camel"
and
inros, meaning "cookie"

Tinros' Camel Cookies

There is a basketball player in the NBA named "Dominique", which I think sounds pretty girly.

I think "Robin" sounds like a girly name, despite the evidence brought forth to the contrary by Robin Williams, Robin Leach, and Robin Hood.

I think it is pretty funny when someone thinks that I am a man. "Tante" means aunt and "Shvester" means sister. That's pretty darn feminine.

As am I.

I knew you were a girl.

Where did you find a book like that? Maybe there's something like that online. It would be great for coming up with fantasy character names.

Hmm...

Edit: OOOH, it's a LOTR thing. Didn't know that. But the concept is sound. Maybe I could find a place for celtic roots or some such.
