Whenever a person hits the forward button, it should trigger their internet browser to go to www.snopes.com with a message telling them to confirm the stupid warnings or schemes that they are about to forward before they send it.

Does anyone really believe that the FDA utilizes chain letters to get information out?

Even if Bill Gates was tracking your forwards, what kind of friend turns over their entire address book to a company.

If the internet was going to be "cleaned" and everyone needed to shut down their computer for a day, don't you think CNN would pick it up?

Tommy Hilfiger might indeed hate black people, but do you really think he would announce that fact on Oprah?

Though, what I find most annoying is when one person keeps sending you these types of things even after you have corrected them in the past, and told them to use snopes.

I actually take the time to reply with the snopes link hoping that this little act will some way lessen the number of ridiculous forwards out there.

I have an aunt (not close, and possibly, oh, unhinged) who sent me a highly inflammatory chain letter along the lines of "all Muslims are ordered by God to kill all Christians". She knows I'm married to a Muslim. So, I snoped it and sent her a very clear reply indicating why her original email was the dumbest thing ever and forwarded it to her and to everyone she sent it to. [Big Grin]

Haven't heard from her since. [Big Grin]

Forwarding chain letters comes primarily from ignorance. Or, more precisely, Internet Illiteracy. Allowing such people to use the e-mail it’s like giving a Fountain Pen to a tribe member. It would be a wonderful poking tool, with a very limited power of conveying meaningful messages. In their hands, that is.

Long live the "www.snopes.com"-like sites and forums [Hat]

I have 7 people on my msn account, and Fahim (quid's husband), as the only people on my hotmail contacts list. The only emails I get from any of them are constructed and interesting. As a result, I somehow manage to not get any junk mail whatsoever [Big Grin]

On my old account, which I won't touch again with an eighty foot pole, I have 823 contacts, it won't let me delete any of them, and I get nothing but junk mail on it. A lot of it.

So I'm happy [Big Grin]
