Calm, cool, not quite as collected

Last weekend I stood surrounded by the relentless demons that have haunted and hounded me my whole life, and I was unmoved. It was a personal breakthrough that has made me a stronger, calmer person.

I went to a science fiction convention and came back with money left over.

Imagine dropping a heroin addict into a barrel of the stuff only to see him fidget and ask to be let out and you'll get the general idea. Everywhere I looked I saw rows and shelves and bins of items that I once coveted with a white-hot burning desire, and I felt nothing.

Good for you Chris!

To this day I get the shakes when confronted with unopened booster packs of magic cards...

But I'm 8 years clean.

Me too, Pix. Except it's Star Trek cards. Thankfully they don't make the TNG ones anymore.

I had to include that to be honest. My Firefly/Serenity weakness is still a battle that I fight every single da... that I mean to fight someday.

I never really was a big collector, well except for baseball cards...and I think that was a requirement for a young male when I was a kid...particularly since I played baseball as well.

I do tend to track down every book by my favorite authors, but not really to collect them. I don't care if they are paperback or hardback, new or beat up. As long as I can read them over and over again I am happy. [Smile] Of course members of my family have always thought it odd that I wanted to keep bookshelves of books so I could read them again someday, but you never know when you will be in the mood for a particular book. [Smile]

I'm not all that big into autographs, but I think that is mostly because I don't have the money to spend on getting them. If I had more money, I would have liked to have been standing next to in that line to get Summer to sign something. [Smile]

My weakness was the Middle Earth CCGs (The Wizards, The Dragons, The Lidless Eye, The White Hand). I got about 85% of a complete set of The Wizards.

I've finally hardened myself enough to sell these cards, but now there's very little demand for them. [Cry] Should've sold when LotR mania was at it's highest, I guess.

The sad part is when you try to break that particular addiction, donate everything to worthy causes . . . and start trying to find evry single one again . . .

The really sad thing is that celebrities exist who actually need to make their money by selling their autographs. I NEVER want to put myself in that position. Nor would I ever pay for an autograph. It just seems silly.
