First of all, I need to find a gyno. The problem is, no one around here knows who to recommend. I called this after-hours clinic where a doctor I like works and asked them if they knew of anyone, and they gave me some Doctors R Us hotline. When I call it, I'm put on hold. Forever. And I mean forever. No matter when I call.

I don't really want to go Eenie Meenie Minie Gyno-ing through the phone book. Is there some way I can look up what other people think about specific doctors and stuff? And aside from that, get a list of NAMES?

Also, if I live in Louisiana, but I'm not a resident because I'm still a dependent of my parents in Florida and I want individual health insurance (no one else in my family has it), do I get a plan in Florida or Louisiana?

Is there a women's health collective or some such similar organization in your area? If so, they may have a listing of various docs along with patient experiences or ratings.

The local medical society would give names of ones taking new patients. Sometimes hospitals have hotline nurse numbers where you could call and ask who they (the nurses) know good things about.

I'd look for a plan in either state that doesn't have a short list of which doctors and hosptitals you can go to. If there is a list, but it is big and includes hospitals in your area and your parents' area, that might be ok.
