I just wanted to share my absolute happiness today with all of you. I had a couple really good things happen today, and now I'm just thrilled [Smile]

First, I got my letter from the department saying I actually passed my Latin Qualifier! I'm still in shock over this - I thought it had soundly kicked my behind. But now I passed and (provided I passed my Greek Qualifier - should know by Friday) will probably get out of my program in two years! Woo!

And then when I got home, I had two seasons of Stargate waiting for me at the door. Hooray!

I hope all of your days are going well, and if they're not - I hope they get better.

That's really good to hear, Carrie.

And Synesthesia, I saw a Dir En Grey album at my Japanese supermarket and thought of you.

My day is long and busy and rainy, but I'm in a great mood.

I never passed a Latin or a Greek Qualifier in my life. I don't even know what they are. But, still, I offer you a hearty and sincere Mazel Tov, and much naches. And if you had passed your Yiddish Qualifier, you might even know what that means.

Enjoy!

OR in case you don't want to wait
Mazel Tov is used to say nice job or congradulations but acually means Good Luck (starnge world isn't it)

Naches is basically hapiness or Joy

Sorry Tante

Tante S., you've done it again. I was going to make some witty post about not knowing what a Latin or Greek qualifier is, but you beat me to it and were far wittier than I could have ever been. *sigh*

Carrie--I'm happy for your happy day! [Smile]

A, uh, Latin Qualifier is a degree-deciding test everyone enrolled in the M.A. in Classical Philology program must take. It's a big translation test that decides if we're qualified enough (hence the name) to take the Comprehensive exams in the following semester (no guesses on what those are [Wink] ). Since I passed my Latin one and feel really good about my Greek one, I'm on track to get my M.A. in two years - which is apparently quite rare for a Philologist in our department.

Go me!

(Though in all fairness, you might be hearing me bemoan my sad fates when I get my Greek results back [Angst] )
