Several weeks ago I was talking to him after class, and asked him if he knew whether Congress would be in session during Spring Break. My family is going to DC for Break, and we want to get visitor passes and watch Congress in session. He didn't know, but he said he'd check for me. I didn't actually expect him to, though, because I've noticed that professors tend to treat undergrads as annoying bugs that they try to avoid most of the time, and ignore when avoiding doesn't work.

Today I checked my email, and I had an email from him, which is pretty amazing, since it means he was able to attach my face to a name. But that's not all. Not only had he found out that Congress was in fact in session, he told me what was on the agenda for that week, as well as giving me advice about when to go. All of this because of a quick conversation we'd had after class 3 weeks ago. I mean, I'd pretty much forgotten about it.

I'm in shock. And madly madly in love. Can you imagine anything so nice?

It would be more awesome if he were hot and you were single, but you know I'm not supposed to just think of that sort of thing.

Umm, first question: How much older than you is he?

And do you really think such a relationship would work?

And last, could he be married? (just checking)

Not romantically in love. [Razz] I just think it was really really nice of him and he's the nicest professor ever.

I didn't assume it that way, I just was hoping you had a hot professor.

Advent, your scenario would better be entitled:

"I'm in congress with my Love Professor"

No, he's totally old. And grandfather like. If your grandfather is the director and founder of the CSPAN Archives and is obsessed with Congress

*laugh* The title reminded me of an roommate I had who was completely infatuated with one of her professors. I mean, to the point that she was hanging out with his 10-year-old daughter (yes, he was married, and no, there weren't any serious romantic pursuit/homewrecker schemes going on). I don't know how many times I listened to stories about her "Hott Professor". She got over it after the semester ended, but it was pretty amusing at the time.

Your professor sounds like a great one, blackwolve. I don't think any I've had would follow through like that unless I reminded them, even the really nice ones.

On a more serious note, my American History professor gave me quite a few books from his own personal collection, including his Greek textbook ... froom 50 years ago. He wrote a very touching note in it, and also taped his Greek teacher's obituary inside the front cover. This guy was an amazing teacher and the fact that he noticed me and actually thought enough of me to give me a book which obviously meant a lot to him really makes me feel special [Smile] .

It WOULD Be cool if he were also a hot professor. I had a really, really hot Macroecon professor and as a result missed very few classes even though he had no attendance policy.

Unfortunately, I wasn't exactly paying attention to the lectures, either.

I had a hot psych professor who had an attendance policy and I still didn't go to class. But I noticed that the class was about 60/40 guys, which is roughly the reverse of what you'd expect at my school.

*cries* No one got my Firefly reference. [Frown]

"She's in congress with the beast."

"She's in congress?"

"How did you learn human speech?"
