Does anyone know of a good, free online translation service for Spanish and or French? I've tried Babelfish and Dictionary.com, neither one makes good results.

A friend and I are designing a website for FBLA competition, and we would like to translate it into Spanish and French as well. I speak a bit of Spanish and he's currently in French I, so neither of us are fluent enough to do manual translations.

If you know of a good service or would be willing to do a manual translation for us (any other language would be great!), please respond as quickly as possible. The page will be due on February 1st!

Doesn't Babelfish use Systran? I thought Systran was one of the leading translation services.

Yes, but the kind of text we have is very wordy and I tried to use lots of different words for things it doesn't recognize...as well as many proper nouns.

Altariel::::

Thanks so much! How long will it take you to do about 3 letter-size pages of 12-point text? Also, my partner would like to know if you have any kind of online messenging service? AOL Instant messenger, MSN, Yahoo or Paltalk?

Try to not rely on online translators because they really tend to suck. There are some great dictionaries out there though (for French I adore this one which is free but asks for your email). I'd take Atariel up on her offer if I were you. And you can try me for French, though I'm not fluent.

Help me too!

I've been trying to have the phrase, "The French Revolution Strikes Again" translated for awhile. The best I've gotten so far is "La Révolution Franēaise Frappe Encore," with babelfish.

Problem: The word Frappe means litteraly to strike or hit something. English to French dictionaries haven't really been forthcoming with something better. If someone can help me out, or just give me an appropriate word, I can probably figure out how to conjugate it on my own.

Online translators suck monkeys. Don't touch 'em. Have you tried an "unabriged" dictionary, like the Harper Collins Robert one? I own it, but since my translating class is over, it went home. Those usually get every use of the word, they're quite amazing (and worth the 55 bucks they cost). IF the library doesn't have one, Barnes and Noble does. Look up the word you need in the bookstore (but it is a kickass dictionary).

One thing I like to do is find a similiar expression in English, and find it as a translated work (I own the Harry Potter translations, have the English memorized, so I've looked up the French in equivalent parts of the books. Quite useful actually). My suggestion, is to go with the Star Wars thing and check Amazon.fr, but I did your homework: L'Empire contre-attaque is the translated title.

If you just need individual words wordreference.com is a good online dictionary.

Thanks guys, but because of time constraints I can't translate individual words and go about it manually myself.

--Altariel: I tried IMing you lastnight but you didn't respond. Is there a specific time that you'll be on (I'm in central time zone, right now its 5:30 pm) that I can contact you with the pages?
