I heard something disturbing last night about the Mussoui Case and would like other opinions on it.

As you may know, one of the prosecutors coached her witnesses on what to say, in direct violation of a judges order. This is bad.

It was assumed by most people that she did this in an effort to assure the terrorist would be executed and some form of justice would be done. That smacks of government power in excess which is bad.

What I heard was that she was a minor lawyer on the team, rarely brought into the main discussions, who's sole job was to get Dept. of Transportation witnesses. She believed that the prosecution's argument--that if Mussoui had talked, lives would have been saved, went against the policies of her department. To save her department from ridicule, she was coaching these witnesses for the prosecution to not support the prosecution case. In other words, to support the defence. That is bueurocratic a-covering getting in the way of justice. That I think is worse.

Her department is supposed to watch the Airline industry. It is the airline industry that insists that nothing they could have done could have prevented 9/11. This is their argument in defending themselves from a rash of 9/11 law-suits. It is their strategy for saving millions if not billions. It is possible that the prosecutor was coaching those witnesses on behalf of the airlines, with the plans/hopes of a future high paying job. That is greed, and I find that worst of all.

Sorry, I am late for work so there are no links. Anyone who could find them for me would be appreciated.

I hadn't heard anything about this possibility, but if it turns out to be true, that is just plain horrible.

::goes off to research::
