Because I owe more money than I thought I did and one of the loans is going towards collection. I refuse to borrow this way ever again. I mean it. If I want a car, I'll just get a heap of junk for 500 dollars or go to a police auction. I don't mind driving the car of some mobster who probably put a ton of bodies in the trunk. Car loans, morgages, credit cards, it's all the same. It's a way of paying more for something instead of its actual price. And if you can't pay because you've fallen on hard times, too bad, there goes your car, your house, your stuff, everything. I want nothing to do with it...

I called UVA services and I left a message with my school. it's my own fault... First of all, I should not have ignored all of those notes, but i just realized it was a separate loan and didn't want to deal with the thought of owing another 12,000 dollars! Also, last year this time I was still bagging groceries. I've only been a full time worker for a few months now... Also, I suck. I admit it. One day I'll have to do something about it, but after next week.

Syn, have you checked all of your deferral and forbearance options on your loan that's headed for collections? Do you have more than one student loan? If you are out of deferrals, and have more than one loan, ask about consolidation. . . it'll be a brand new loan, in good standing again, and give you a second chance to keep it that way. Good luck.

Yes, call them immediately. I am in default on my student loans (though won't be in another couple months). I didn't have to be though.
You can get your loans deferred due to any number of reasons, one of them being financially hardship.
I now work for a company who does student loan software, and from what I know now, there's really no reason to ever default on your student loans. Talk to your creditors, and they will give you options.

That's what I'll try. The Federal loan goes off forbearance next month. I have to start paying about $125 a month... grrr. Hopefully it's not too late. I don't want them to heap a bunch of charges on me saying, pay it as I stare blankly at them.

Credit isn't bad, it's a tool. It's as idiotic to swear it off completely as it is to think one [not you, Syn] can charge without impunity and just pay the minimums. Without credit, I can tell you that you will almost never be able to by a house.
It's always good to learn about a tool if you use it, and treat it with a certain amount of respect and suspicion

Is ok. I am doing better than I was last year. But this means the hands start reaching out. I wish I could do even better, a full time job, paying between 11-15 dollars an hour with benefits and paid vacations would be nice. And stability.

Stability is gained by taking charge of all facets of your life, Syn. Even the parts that are hard and annoying.
I know, I got nasty phone calls from credit card companies back in college when I had no real income, and was surviving off my credit. I didn't know anything about it then, really. Now that I know, I'm somewhat comfortably in debt in the six figures. In fact, that debt helped get me a large tax return this year.

No job again. I despise working temp... Of course it's my own stupid fault in the first place.

Syn- I think someone mentioned being a truck driver. If you were to do that for a couple of years, you could really cut down on some expenses and have a decent income. This would allow you to pay down that debt rather than stretch it over 10 years. You would also have plenty of spare time in which to write. Might be worth some consideration.

I can't drive though, and I have this problem... I fall into a deep sleep sometimes if I am sitting still for too long for about 5 seconds, 10... If I did that in a truck... *shuddeR*

I laugh at your student loans. You wanna see something scary? Every year I have to request loans for 25k.

How could I get a job in correspondence? I'm excellent at writing those letters as long as I am left alone to listen to my music and work. I hardly make any mistakes either. What I really wish is that they'd hire me again downstairs, as I'd get paid so much more, but I can't hold my breath. They are probably still having budget problems. Dang, does temp work SUCK in terms of stability.

Yeah, that's why it's called temporary work. Most temp places have opportunities that are temp-to-hire and if you do a good job on your temp assignments, you get first crack at the choice temp-to-hire options.
My last two jobs before I quit to stay home with my kids were gotten by going the temp-to-hire route. In both cases I landed jobs that paid well and had good benefits. You just have to stay with it, prove yourself a good employee and keep going. Nobody is going to pay you right now to do exactly what you want. I know few people who can sit at a desk and write and listen to music all day. You're going to need to expand your horizons a bit.

I know, but it's still a kick in the non-existent bits... I think I will try for something permanent in that same place. The people in Bluecard seem to like me, but I am scared out of my brains to ask about a position there... I really am a good worker... But it's still probably my own fault for making myself expendable in some way... Perhaps it will be worth the risk.
Why do you have to apply for 25k? That's so much.

Syn, I have found my student loans to be the most forgiving. Just keep talking to them. Also, there are jobs, such as working with low income/disadvantaged youth(and others, nt sure which) where they will write off the loan in part or in full.

I apply for that money, but I only use what the school needs after using the money from my grants. At the end of all this I'll probably owe them like 50k or so...

That sucks. Mine was expensive too. That is why I am doomed. Don't they realize they'd actually GET the money if they don't accelerate the loan and as long as I have a job?

Are you calling the school or the bank that carries your loan? You need to call the bank/financing company/whatever you call it. I'd be really surprised if you can't get them on the phone right away, and they're the ones who can help you. Not your school.
