My wife planted the seed in my head, but I have so many writing projects that I doubt I'll ever get to it.
Here's the story:
Cinderella 2007
Cinderella is an old name, which fits in this story for Cinderella is a lovely elderly lady. However age has begun to take its toll on her. She has three children, the eldest P. Charming, insists she move in with him. However his wife and children are spoiled evil things. They make her life miserable, working her cleaning the house.
Charming decides to have a party, inviting his boss, Mr. King and other fine people. Wife says, "Your mother has to stay in her room."
Luckily for us, Mr. Charming's sister comes to the party too, bringing their cute little daughter, Fey. Yes, she is the Fey Grandaughter (compared to Fairy Godmother.) The granddaughter loves Grandma, and helps her get dressed for the party. Then sees that she makes a grand entrance.
To everyone's surprise, she is the hit of the party, especially to old Mr. King. The two hit it off well. Wife is upset, hoping to bag the old man for one of her poorer daughters. At midnight Grandma must disappear for her medication, and doesn't come back down.
She does leave one of her shoes, actually a shoe that happens to belong to her Fey Granddaughter.
The next day Mr. King calls on Grandma, who is locked in her room. Wife says she doesn't live here, and again offers herself or her daughters as more suitable companionship. As Mr. King leaves he spots Fey, carrying her one shoe. When her parents brought her home, sleeping, from the party they only brought back one shoe. She is looking for the match. Mr. King has it. Fey shows Mr. King where Grandma's room is. He throws pebbles up to it, and, well one thing leads to another and the two run away to Vegas for a quick wedding.
The final line will read, "I can't say that they lived happilly ever after, for this isn't a fairy tale, but for as long as they did live, from here on after, they were happy, and you can't wish for more than that."

And I have to admit that my first reaction when I read the title was "Ooo! I do! I do!" (I think I even raised my hand, giving my roommate quite a shock.)

End line change: "I can't say that they lived happilly ever after. This is not a fairy tale. I can say for as long as they lived, from here on after, they were happy. You can't wish for more than that."
