I HATE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are out in force now, so what had been for me a relaxing habit of long, refreshing walks has become an experience akin to how I imagine hell: millions of swarmy things ALL OVER, getting all over everything and getting caught in my hair, and resulting in zealous scrubbing in two looooong showers per day, while trying to ignore smushed bodies running down the drain. *shudder*

Mayflies. Not just a Hatrack in joke.

My first reaction was: wait, I don't recall any mayflies as of late on this thread. What is she complaining about?

Then I actually finished your post, and it all makes sense. Insects of any kind are irrationally annoying. If it's any consolation though, their life span is about a week, if that. Content yourself with knowing that you are a God among insects. [Razz]

I happened to be travelling in Illinois during the week that the mayflies were out and I agree they are disgusting (think so many that I had to turn on the windshield wipers to drive and then they'd leave a gross schmear on the glass. Ugh). You have all my sympathy!

I hate trying to drive in them....the wipers only smear them all over the windshield. [Big Grin]

June bugs usually come here in April. I can only imagine they were named by people who live farther north.

I wonder if that means we get Mayflies in March? I don't think I have seen a bug like that, though. Maybe we don't get them at all. Can someone link to pictures of what you mean?

Okay, I googled and found them, and indeed we don't get them here, at least not in large numbers. I can't remember ever having seen one. They look really cool, though, with their three tails and their wings that don't fold away.

Here we get dragonflies, which might be their close cousins. They don't swarm, though. I love how dragonflies look. They're so archaic looking! Like something from the Jurassic or something, which they probably are. [Smile]
