Yeah, it looks pretty fun.

Luke Skywalker and Bugs Bunny versus vaguely Lovecraftian monsters. [Big Grin]

I'm on a super fast university line. Its unusually for anything to take more than a few seconds to download. I've been loading this one for over 10 minutes now and I'm only about 1/3 of the way through the movie.

I'm on my normal home cable modem. That's odd that it's acting different for other super-fast computers. [Confused]

Ah, maybe I didn't give it long enough to load. I'm used to everything loading instantly. I'll open it and wait this time.

Edit to add: Oh, now it's working with no wait. Strange.

Edit again to add: Wow! Sweet!

I just tried it again and it's loading much faster, but still not instant. Then again, I'm in a semi-rural area without the best DSL, so I'm used to having to wait a little for things.

I don't get it though. Why does Jack owe Davey Jones his soul? Wasn't the original curse Mayan gold?

And isn't that the same chest from the first movie?

I think that Jack owes Davey Jones money, but Jack hasn't and can't pay. Which is why Davey Jones is going to take Jack's soul.

Rumor has it the reason why Jack Sparrow has the uncanny ability to escape from peril (including the curse of the Mayan Gold...remember, he didn't have that curse until the original film's climax) is because of a deal he struck with Davey Jones.

So, different supernatural force at work...most likely a different chest.

I thought the reason that Jack wasn't cursed was because he was kicked off the ship before they took the treasure? They committed mutiny before they took the treasure.

Didn't they?

I wonder what the chest will be for in the third movie.

They'll have to find a use for it somewhere.

It was gold that Cortez got when he conquered Mexico. So, either Aztec, Mayan, or Incan gold. I think...

So I was reading that Wikipedia article, and something occurred to me...why wasn't Elizabeth an undead while she had the gold medallion?

I don't remember them explaining this; is it just an error?

Elizabeth didn't take it, so she wasn't cursed. The only people who got cursed were the people who actually stole the gold pieces out of the chest.

She didn't remove it from the chest. To be affected by the curse, YOU have to remove a medallion from the chest. The thing I want to know is:

If Will Turner's father was part of the crew and he had some of the gold, he took some of it didn't he? So, he shouldn't be dead. He should be still hanging out somewhere, right?

We had this discussion last time we watched the movie. We came to the conclusion that Bill Turner would have been fine - except if he was still at the bottom of the sea when the curse was broken. If so, then Will and Jack accidentally killed him.
Oops.

Funny, I thought that this was the only important chest in PotC.

I can see the title for the third movie "Pirates of the Caribbean 3: Jack Finds Another Cursed Chest"

Oops.

Not necessarily. You're assuming he was in fact under the sea when the curse was broken, but how long was it from the date he was dumped overboard and when the curse was broken? I'm sure he's walked to shore since then.

In fact I bet we see him in the second or third movie using that exact excuse. If they didn't specifically explain it away, I expect it'll be used.

He was chained when he was thrown overboard. He would have to have dragged that chain to shore or gotten out of it somehow. And not been eaten into tiny pieces by sea creatures. Or not crushed into tiny pulp by the pressure.

I would assume if the body was completely destroyed somehow, say crushed, eaten or burned, the undead might not have been able to come back.

It's the teaser trailer.

Belle -

The Carribean is a relatively shallow sea. Chances are the depth pressure wouldn't cause him to be crushed, and heck Davy Jones is down there, who's to say he didn't make a deal with Davy for his life?

Or that he dolphin kicked his way to shore, or the chains simply rusted off him?

There's a million ways they can spin this to get him into either the next or the third movie. I fully expect to see it.

Jack: I love those moments. I like to wave at them as they pass by.

Actually, he was chained to a chest. Maybe that's the chest referred to in the movie.

Foreshadowing!

Nah, that'll be the chest used in the THIRD movie.

Every PotC movie needs a chest of some sort to focus the plot around. Other than Keira Knightley's. Ahem.

My bad, he was actually strapped to a cannon. I forgot about that.

This was a thing I wrote last year when I heard the sequel was coming out. I assume the movie isn't going to be anything at all like this, and the trailer just confirms that.

I read that Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones was supposed to be in this film, playing a cameo as Jack's father. Johnny Depp has said in the past that he based the performance of Jack in part on Keith Richards. But Richards had to pull out of the cameo due to touring conflicts with the band.

Shame really, that would've been hilarious. Maybe for the third movie?

They filmed both PotC sequels LotR style, Lyrhawn. As in, the third movie is already done, save for editing, FX, and pick-up shots.

If Mr. Richards does make a cameo, it would have to be when they're filming the pick-ups.
