Got my ass handed to me by AI/bad luck, now I have to consider what my next country is going to be but I'm not as motivated as I was before. Tis' a sad state of affairs. the Muslems overran italy and now Byzantium is gleefully picking up the pieces my dream for restablishing the roman empire in the game of Crusader Kings I was playing is over.

Bad luck, hell. I think you were at war for about 90% of the time you played that game. It's not Hearts of Iron, your economy is not set up for long-lasting wars of total conquest. Your vassals hate you, your neighbours hate you, even the Pope hates you for getting into debt. Sorry, but this is not bad luck, it's sheer incompetence.

Calm down, sniff the roses, build up your infrastructure, and above all find some hot heiresses to marry. Marriages are the way to go if you want to expand.

no I switched to royal perogitive which I think is what set off the chain of events that started my realm duress, everything else was rather fine until that happened, then I lost the ability raise enough troops to defend myself.

hmm? the forum for it is kinda out of date and I haven't gotten around to an AAR report, but KoM, at least I'm not blaming anyone for it, this is my loss and my own fault for not seeing it coming and hopefully I can recover some how as another nation.

Let's assume I am so non-gamer that I don't even get the Achronyms in your intro. Is this game played in a computer program, or is it a more notional make believe kind of thing? Do you consult a map with computer generated perameters and characters with physical laws and stuff?

This concept is something I like and I might want to participate in something similar to it- like "Nuber's Italy" or something like that. Is that the idea here?

its a computer game by Paradox Interactive/Entertainment, you do consult a map for everything.

Its like risk except its only europe, its an RTS (a time stamp where everything happens in real time DD:MM:YYYY).

The goal is to guide your "dynasty" essentially everyone in your family tree throughout a 400 year period.

In that 400 year period the members of your dynasty can hold 4 tiers of titles: courtier, count, duke, and King. (a hardcoded Emperor title also exists but only for Byzantium)

Courtier do nothing on their own the player assigns them positions in his court that modify the players stats but nothing more then that.

Counts contol "provences" raise troops to defend themselves or to attack another county. They can control 2-3 count titles I think.

Duke/Duchy: Controls up to several counts, can directly raise and control the troops of not only their own demense but also the troops of their count vassals.

King: A KIng generally controls a couple of duchies, several if not a few dozen counts.

Warfare is handed somewhat subtely, you can dow a heathen count/duke/king/shiek (pagans/muslems) at will since they do not share the same faith.

However "Christians" catholics, protestants etc cannot dow each other unless there is a claim for the provence you want to gain from the peace treaty.

However if you do force the claim you slowly acculminilate a bad reputation which in the end can cause a civil war in your realm and this happened to me and killed me.

DOW = Declaration of War
Setting up a casus belli is fairly essential in this game.

hmmm no thats Europa Universalis II (the game that timelinewise comes after), I don't think saying "hey you my family used to live in these parts ye waaay back" is quite the same thing as "you did not live up to your agreements and now by law I must take it by force".

claim != Casus Belli

I doubt Blayne's Italy was so beautiful.

I would like to play a game similar to the one Abner Doon and Herman Nuber play. I think this kind of strategy/ politics/ risk game would be totally awesome.

buy Crusader King's and join either of the weekly games I'm in, doesnt matter what time you join in at theres always spare countries.

Also KoM, I'm trying to accomplish what you did with Kiev in the GG2, however theirs a Ponsk player [Mad] Though I am largely successful so far If I wasnt 6000k in debt I would have the Rus/Lithunian king titles by now, but I had to spend it all making sure I didnt get realm duress twice. I changed from gavelkind law to salic consangulity so that my non inbred heir would inherent.

How the devil did you have Gavelkind anyway? It is the worst possible inheritance law. A Pronsk player would be a problem, right enough; I seem to recall that GG2 kind of packed Russia? More players than CQS, anyway. Ally with Byz and smash him.

There is no Byz player unfortunately, and even if we could get one Byz is almost overrun by turks alrdy, the sejuks are crazy this game, we put ai on aggressive.

I started as Kyiv and for some reason they started our with Gavelkind, dont know why changing it was a pain.

This game as a Poland player however, our old body Sterk [Smile] He was kinda going crazy in the diplo thread about how he's going to smash russia before I smash him and I state that my aims are peaceful and I wont expand in polands direction yadda yadda yadda I'm forming a coalition of powers, Bohemia, Hungary, Norway, and possibly Pronsk should Poland ever try to attack with HRE (Lurken) supporting.

Now however it seems alot more likely Lurken will join in since because twice in a row Sterk wasnt able to make it (first time cuz of modem 2nd time because of inexplicable reasons) which is REALLY good for me because those were the sessions where I kinda had realm duress [Smile] but I held Novgorod-Kyiv together and now I dont have realm duress anymore with my new king.

I'm 7000k in debt however, otherwise by next session I couldve easily get King of Rus and King of Lithunia title.

My main problem is that dispite some 25-30 vassals I only have some 10k troops, 15k I think now I havent checked. I just need to get Smolensk, and Vitbesrk off of Pereslavyl and I'll have enough titles for Rus, I just need a loan of 7000d first [Big Grin]

However their is a Georgia but I doubt I can get him on board, while there are "issues" between them mostly Georgia taking enough that while they cant get Bolgar/Coman titles nether can Pronsk [Wink] but Pronsk (who is starting to turn into Ukraine bit by bit) is trying hard to keep relations cordial.

Its crazy sterk as poland that I worry about hes hell bent on vassalizing me. And I ask Lurken why hes supporting a crazy Poland and hes like "Game balance, poland is screwed later on"

pfft, game balance at the players expence suuuuure.

Well, why shouldn't he support Sterk? After all, you are a well-known warmonger. He doesn't want to have a powerful Russia on his border. And really, a Poland that can't expand into Germany really is pretty screwed. He needs to reach the Dvina or so to stand a chance. Of course, I'm sure Lurken doesn't want Poland on the Volga - he'll maintain a careful balance. Right now, Poland is presumably looking weaker than you, as well he might having missed two sessions.

As for 'game balance at the players' expense', I don''t get you. Game balance is always at someone's expense, to wit, the one who looks like he's winning. What, you think Lurken is in some grand conspiracy to keep you down just because he doesn't like you?

I said that tongue in check, I know that game balance aka balance of power is ALWAYS at someone's expence.

Well, I fully intend to make sure Poland DOESN'T reach the Volga [Smile] , I had him on teamspeak on saturday and he's like "c'mon be my vassal, I'll let you roam free and such" and I'm like "nooooooooo"

Lurken doesn't like me? *sniff*
