Chief Executive Robert Iger recently revealed that the cancelled film Toy Story 3 has resumed production, and that possible sequels to other Pixar films are being considered.

Pixar has taken over the production from Walt Disney animation, as it should.

Still, my feelings are mixed. While the original, weak plot has been scrapped (some crud about all Buzz Lightyear toys being recalled to a factory in Taiwan for repairs)...what could be done with the characters next?

In film one, we had a love/hate buddy picture with a twist of the characters being toys.

In film two, we had a surprisingly sophisticated character arc for Woody...he basically is trying to cope with the certainity of death.

What next?

I think they're going to get all existential. Can a toy triumph over his die-cast nature? Is God really dead, or has He just been licensed by Hasbro? That sort of thing. [Wink]

So Woody will begin listening to old Lou Reed tunes on vinyl and smoking a lot?

No, I'm thinking this one will focus on the T-Rex, whose stumpy little arms will symbolize his inability to really hold on to anything in this life. And, of course, Mr. Potato Head discovers that wearing the "angry eyes" actually makes him angry, and questions whether any of his emotions are actually his own -- a bit of self-doubt that will no doubt be exploited by the pig, who has finally realized that the $2.20 in his stomach will never amount to more.

I can -so- hear Wallace Shawn angst-ridden over having no stability.

As a dinosaur.

That's it. I'm giving up my career and writing Pixar fanfic from now on.

I thought it was obvious. Mr. Potato Head is going to become Hal 9000 and go on a killing spree that will leave the rest of Toymanity to suffer under his terrible wrath. Of course, after Disney gets their hands on the idea, instead of a killing spree, it will become a hug spree, oh well. [Smile] [Smile]
