I found this rather amusing : Linky. Basically, a woman was praying for safety because she was worried about a storm. On the word 'Amen', lightning struck her house.
Yay for anecdotes on how effective prayer is!

She prayed for her family's safe return, she didn't say anything about herself, God zapped her on a technacality.

Seeing as how the vast majority of your arguments against religion are anecdotal, KoM, I fail to see why you're so critical of anecdote as a mode of conversation.

KoM, you know how it's okay for family members to laugh about each other's quirkiness, but if an outsider does it, the family gets angry?
You might consider that the next time you decide to post something you find "humorous" about people who have faith.
Even if I thought this story was funny (it's not...lightning strikes are extremely dangerous), coming from you it's just going to offend people.

suminonA, I'm not angry. This just isn't a topic on which KoM has earned my trust and respect. Perhaps I shouldn't have pointed it out, but, really, I think analogy to "family" and "not family" is apt and I was wondering if KoM had considered it ever.

Bob, I'm totally with you on this one. Making fun just for fun might be fun, but making fun to make a point, on a sensitive matter too, it's not the best way to go. IMO.

I'd just like to say that I'm shocked--shocked and revolted--that KoM would take this story and put such a negative spin on it. Watt could have have been thinking, to link to that report?

Do you think he could be charged with violating the member agreement by posting something like this?

He's certainly galvanized other posters to respond. What's not clear from the story is whether her ohm was damaged.

They may note even know for sure yet, Dag. I'm sure that it'll all become clear once they conduct a more through investigation.

Hard to say. If the house did catch on fire, do you think that she had the presence of mind to run and get her julery box before heading to safety?

I'm not sure what your point is, KoM. Should she have just worked herself up into a frenzy of fretting and worrying instead of taking comfort in prayer? Popped a few tranquilizers? Downed a few shots of booze? Smoked a joint?

One of the effects of growing up in a British colony is that I have ALWAYS loved me a good pun, thx for giving me my fix Dag.
I was thinking she might sing the Hymn "How Great Thou Art" with just alittle less enthusiasm next time. That news story is sort of the reverse of a "There are no atheists in foxholes" yarn. Incidentally one of my favorite quotes is
"The arguement that there are no atheists in foxholes is not an arguement against atheists, its an arguement against foxholes."
Lighten up people, KOM merely said he found it "Amusing." Nobody can deny that the timing of the lightning bolt was at the very least, "Interesting."

BlackBlade, you might want to turn up the sensitivity on your pun-detector before telling the rest of the posters they should lighten up.

Feel free too iluminate my understanding as to what you mean.
I understand KOM is not the most gracious of atheists when it comes to dealing with the religious, I just think you should take it in stride seeing as how he takes the jabs people throw at him in retaliation more or less without wigging out.

Who has jabbed at him? By jab, I'm assuming you mean a personal attack, rather than an expression of disagreement with his POV or tactics...

I mean that the pun-fest started at least four posts before Dag's that you commented on, and there hasn't been a serious post since.

I've been trying to find a follow up article so that we can get to the bottom of this, but so far I'm not finding anything. I've only looked in the paper's current events section, though, so it's possible I'll find more when I dig a little deeper.
Interestingly, I did find an article about something very similar. A MP had the exact same thing happen to him about a year ago.

Bob, I can't let you and Dagonee take all the heat for this.
Look, KoM, there's just not a spark in our relationship any longer. Sure, when first we met you were dazzling...electrifying, even. Shockingly, though, you became more and more negative as time went on.
I don't want to be circuitous at all-- you need to stop ozoning out. You should know by now that you are a lightning rod for critiscism, and work to neutralize the antagonism before it arcs over your way.

Come on guys, this just strikes me as a little bit silly. You just storm in here and steel KoM's thunder like that, and then hope to escape without getting burned. Not cool.

a lightbulb just went on in my head
lol dkw sorry I didnt know if you were directly attacking what I said or asking me to use alternate words. Currently though Ill try to conduct myself in a more inteligent manner. That should dampen instead of amplifying the static in these matters.

You know, if we could come up with a Donar to pledge money for every pun made in this thread, we could raise a lot of money for charity.
