My twins were born six years ago today. Or at least it's still today as I'm writing - it's 11:38 pm my time.

They were born on Memorial Day, as well - my doctor was out of town at the lake for the weekend but he gave me his personal cell phone number and said if I went into labor he would drive in from his vacation home to deliver them. He did. [Smile]

Anyway, I'm a little amazed that I really don't have small children anymore. I mean, once they're past kindergarten, you don't have little kids anymore, you have school-age kids. Even more amazing than the twins being six is that I have a teenager, who is entering her last year of middle school - just one more year and she'll be in high school.

Since I plan to go straight through for my master's degree, I'll probably be finishing my college career just before she starts hers. Very strange.

Have you ever taken a college class you just really didn't want to take? What am I saying, of course you have (those of you that have been in college, anyway.)

I'm taking an American Lit survey course - lower level, it's a requirement for the major that I take at least two American Lit courses, one 200 level and one 400 level class. I just don't like American lit as much as I do British lit. I especially don't like Melville or Hawthorne. So, for this class we have two papers due. Wouldn't you know it, the first one is on Scarlet Letter and the second on Billy Budd.

Ugh.

Edit: I forgot to say something I was musing about today. Is anyone else just fascinated by the Discovery Channel Show Deadliest Catch, about the Alaska crab fisherman? My husband and I love that show. I would vote for Sig Hansen for president, I really would. Of course he can't run for president, as he's Norwegian. And President would probably be a cut in pay for him. Anyway.

Well, it's past my bedtime and staying up late won't turn back the clock and make my babies babies again. I hope you enjoyed my random musings tonight. [Wink] If you actually read it all the way through, I apologize for the post's pointlessness. (is that a word?)

I, for one, did enjoyed your random musings. [Smile]

I humbly present a bit of my own ramblings-

Don't things go fast? I know it's cliche, but they seriously do. Five years ago I was just about to start high school, and I thought I'd never make it to graduation. And I did, and I made it through my first official year of university (although I'm staying for Spring term, so I'm still in class). It's so weird to me. I remember how *old* and *grown up* my neighbor seemed when he was in college and I was still in my early teens. He looked like an adult...But he was the age I am now. Weird. I definately don't feel like an adult. Well, in some ways I do, but I've always felt a bit like an adult. I'd guess probably everyone does. Still, though. It's sort of exhilerating and sort of terrifying to think that, to the little kids playing in the memorial garden in the park today, I probably seemed like any other adult they've seen. Big and tall and...I don't know, responsible or powerful. That way kids feel about adults. I remember that feeling. Sort of. Some of the kids I know (young cousins, babysittees, my younger brother's friends) must feel sort of like that about me. Gah. *mindboggle* Okay, that didn't have a point, but oh well. [Smile]

This made me think of The Pushcart War (by Jean Merrill), where Carlos the carton flattener has the idea of making pea-shooters, and some one, maybe Harry the Hot Dog, says that "for such an idea he should be made President!" And then Papa Peretz asks how the President of the U.S.A. could speak only Spanish. And yay, I love The Pushcart War.

What a strange coincidence: I saw the neighbor I was talking about in my above ramble play the part of Mr. Jerusalem in his middle school production of The Pushcart War. I must have been, what, in kindergarten at the time, so that would have been my first taste of that story. Huh. Cool. And now I'm remembering the other middle school play of that year: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I remember a surprising amount about both those productions. I guess I'm born to the theatre! [Big Grin] Or something...

Happy Birthday (well, it's a day late my time, but still) to your twinses, Belle!

And thanks for your thoughts. I know I don't post here a whole lot, but I'm a steady lurker, and I always appreciate your contributions to Hatrack. [Hat]

Oh yes! When I was almost done they changed the general education requirements so that you couldn't have more than x% of each requirement in a particular subject area. And I had too many of my social science credits in psychology. So I had to take one 300 level political science course. For absolutely no reason other than to meet the new requirement. And there wasn't even anything interesting that I could fit in -- I ended up with "Municipal Government and Politics"
Gah.

That would be my mom, almost. [Smile] She went to school my whole childhood and graduated with her BFA the year I graduated from HS. She had lots of near misses with other degrees. Came within a few credits of having degrees in interior design and education, and probably a few other things too. We had a heck of a graduation party. [Big Grin]

Happy birthday to your twins! I really enjoyed reading your musings.

Happy birthday to the twins [Smile]

I also enjoyed your musings. I have lots more time to read them and muse on my own, these days.
