Which I suppose means I can't tell people I don't contribute to society anymore.
Problem is, I only own two professional-looking outfits, and those took forever to find. I'm not entirely certain that I NEED super-professional clothes, but it would probably be a good thing to have.
Where can I find clothes built for people who are thin and 6' tall? I mean, pants are hard enough, and then the shirts...either they fit my shoulders, but are so wide that I look like I'm wearing a box, or they fit my torso, but are so tight in the shoulders that I can't move my arms.
And if I feel like I look like crap, I'll hate working, I think. I noticed that I got a lot more enthusiastic about working out when I got clothes that didn't make me feel like I was draped in a burlap sack.

I'm 6'4" and I've never had that problem. Size thirteen shoes, however, is a completely different ballgame...

You won't be able to do heels, but they should work. I'm 5'8" and the regular length are enough for me to wear with two-inch heels; assuming we're about the same size, the longs should be enough for you to wear with flats as the inseam is 2.5-3" longer. Plus the editor pants are cute/flattering as hell.

But Express shirts definitely won't do you any good...I have a similar issue because I have such wide shoulders. I've had more luck at Gap with shirts....let's see. You'll want some place that has long, not short jackets; you could try ordering shirts and jackets online from Victoria's Secret. Frankly you have a model body type being tall and thin, and they cater to that look.

Kasie, I know what you mean with the Express shirts. I have two in xs, and they're a little tight up top but too big on bottom. They're also a little short. I have 2 pairs of their Editor pants, and they ARE nice!
Hmmm, I hadn't even thought of Victoria's secret. That's a good idea!
I did just find a skirt which I think is supposed to be just below the knee, but is just above the knee on me that looks cute and one of those shirts that ties. Then I got frustrated and came back home. My mom mentioned getting things tailored, which I'd think is going to be harder since I need pants longer, not shorter. I could get fifty million shirts with ties...

pH, if you can afford it, Land's End sells custom clothing. (If not, try their talls. You can try stuff on physically at Sears, although they have a limited selection and I'm not sure if it includes tall sizes.)

Yeah VS is easy to forget because they don't sell their clothes in stores...but I wish they would!! I've loved everything I've ordered from them, including a pair of jeans, which is really saying something - jeans that fit just right are *so* hard to find.

I buy all my jeans from Buckle...the only place that seems to fit well EVER! But I need the extra-long inseam, which means a lot of times I leave empty-handed, if they don't have my size with that length.

If you happen to know someone in your area who sews, you could maybe buy shirts that fit your shoulders and have them put some darts in to tailor the torso. Or if you don't have a sewing friend, you could have it done professionally, but I have no idea if that would be more cost-effective than buying more expensive shirts that already fit just right.
I also have pretty wide shoulders and long limbs for a girl my size, but I'm not so thin that I have to actually tailor my own shirts. They'd fit better if I did, but I'm too lazy, and I refuse to pay someone else to do it when I know I could do it myself.
And you can add me to the Loves Express Pants list - theirs and Buckle's are just about the only pants to really fit me well. Have you thought about ordering on Buckle's website if you're still having trouble finding your size in the store? There aren't any Buckles in NY ( ), so I've used their site a few times with good results - sizing with them is pretty reliable since they actually use measurements instead of arbitrary numbers like everywhere else. At least, that's how it is for Silvers; I haven't bought any other brands from them. I know that doesn't really help you in the work clothes department, but new jeans are important too.

Nell's post just reminded me that in 8th grade I desperatly wanted Silver's jeans and my mom wouldn't let me get any she just kept buying me Gap ones. I felt so out of place.

Heh - in 8th grade, I don't think I even knew what Silver jeans were, much less want any. I was incredibly brand-oblivious until I was about 15 or so. I'd vaguely notice the various trends, but I was clueless about where to shop for them.

The silvers are nice...but I really like the BKEs and the Luckys...except that Lucky is retiring my favorite cut, or so I've heard (the sweet dream jean is awesome!).

Oh. My. God. I hear you there. I get that same problem, and I'm not even thin. But I make up for that with a freakishly long torso which probably doesn't help.
I've found that Target tends to carry brands that have longer shirts that fit very well. Most of it isn't quite work-wear, but a lot is what you could put under a jacket to make it work-wear (which is what I do).

Haha, in 8th grade all I would wear were JNCOS.
I've never heard of this Buckles, I might have to check it out when my only pair of jeans dies (which will be soon).

I hated jncos, yuck. I was in 8th grade in 99-2000. Freshman year I realized my gap jeans really fit me better and stopped worrying about it.

Express's Editor Pants are truly wonderful.
I would also like to know how the hell I got an upper body of someone who should be six feet tall and ended up being only five five.
(this has gone so far as a problem that I had to finally get a fencing jacket custom-made. rrrrr.)
Anyway, I have the same torso/shoulder problem and have to chime in as another "don't get Express shirts" person. However, I randomly found that St. John's Bay shirts are long enough and just barely wide enough at the shoulders that the fit is fairly decent.

If there's a Nordstrom's nearby, I'd check that out. Tailoring is usually included in the price of the garment, so although you may end up paying up front, you don't have the extra cost of customizing.
Also, these may be beyond what you'd care to pay, but www.michaelstars.com caters to the current trend for really long shirts, which means they're dresses on me, but maybe just right for you. That's also why Nordstorm's might be good - the trendy stuff is looooong right now. And some if it is very basic and work-wearable.

I start tomorrow! I got all the paperwork today (wow, tax forms are weird), and I have to fill that out, but tomorrow and Thursday, I have training from 2-6pm. Because of the Grand Wisdom Tooth Adventure, I'm not sure when I'll be back for next week, but the scheduling seems to be pretty much handled by the 6 students (3 grad, 3 undergrad) that work there. Twenty hours a week! This should be fun.

I don't know if they have H&M here...I don't think I'd ever seen one until I got to Chicago. They did have nice jackets and things, though.
As for where, I'm working at the small business development center at Loyola. I guess it's only halfway a Real Job(tm), but still more than I've done before. I mean, I've never actually worked for, like, money.
