I was just checking out the Pat Metheny homepage, as I occasionally do, and I noticed two things.
First, he's got a new album coming out on January 11th. That's five weeks away. It's an entire album consisting of a single piece. Risky venture. The only other album I have like that is Thick as a Brick by Jethro Tull, and this one is going to be about 20 minutes longer than that was. But if anyone can pull it off, he can. Let's hope he's up to it. He's still got, with one exception, the exact same band members as played with him on Speaking of Now, and that album was amazing. So I'm hoping it'll be good.
Second, this means he's touring again. Here is his tour schedule. I went to his show last time he was here, and it was easily one of the three best concerts I've ever seen. It was a week before I could get it out of my head. So I'm getting tickets when they go on sale on December 11th. Anyone coming with me? It's highly recommended.
Just thought I'd give you a heads up. That's all for now.

Yeah, Zero Tolerance was pretty terrible. I've heard some stories about why he did that, although I'm not sure if they're urban legends or not. Anyway, I bought that when I was lucky to be able to afford a disc a month. I was so mad when I got it home that I scratched it on purpose and returned it as defective. I kind of feel bad about that, but I wasn't going to keep it. I couldn't have been more disappointed if Robert Plant and Jimmy Page reunited to do an album of 'N Sync covers.
Anyway, my hopes for this album are somewhat higher. Hope he pulls it off.
Oh, by the way, if anyone is going to the show in SLC, let us know so we can say Wassap. Okay, I promise not to say "Wassap". But as long as the wife and I are there, we can put a few more notches on the Jatraquero belt, eh.

American Garage still rates as one of my all time fav's. I'm still ticked off at and boycotting the RIAA and the Major Labels but I can still wish individual artists success. I'd love to see artists like this escape from this tyranny.

Tickets in Salt Lake went on sale today. They've already sold nearly half. I got a couple nice front row seats. Anyone who's coming, give them a call. Go to http://www.kingsburyhall.org for more info.

Just listened to a fairly long excerpt from the new The Way Up album, available on the patmethenygroup website. It reminded me of the Offramp album, with strange, bat-like effects and other creature sounds in the background. Pretty trippy.

I've been a Pat Metheny fan for years. Awesome.
I think my favorite was Bright Size Life but I've actually never heard anything from him that I didn't thoroughly enjoy.

Some one post some information on why he did Zero Tolerance. I really want to know what the deal is with that one. One of the most unlistenable (word?) albums in existence I would propose.

"I couldn't have been more disappointed if Robert Plant and Jimmy Page reunited to do an album of 'N Sync covers." You know, I think they actually did this about 2 years ago. Oh Yah. It was pretty good. They had the boys themselves sing backup on a couple songs.

I've been all over the new CD. I'll see you there. I'm so excited! If it's as good as the last show, prepare to be walking around in a daze for the next week or so.

That was an awesome concert! I particularly enjoyed the drumming of Antonio Sanchez, who was both powerful and subtle. He joins the ranks of great drummers such as Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy, and Billy Cobham.

If you like Pat Metheny Group then I think you'll also like Esbjörn Svensson Trio. They're just as creative and exciting, but there's no ego like you get with Metheny and Mays.
My favorite CD is Somewhere Else Before, which is a Columbia re-release of some stuff from a couple of their European CD's. I also like Seven Days of Falling. I just picked up Viaticum, which on first listen seems to be more mellow, but it still sounds good.
