I know a B-Girl very well (a hip-hop dancer, currently located in Vancouver). [Smile]

Glad you found Hatrack. I have a feeling you'll find a lot of new friends here. We should bump a few of the old intro to newbies threads for you so that you can get a quick lay of the land.

Basically, the "other side" is the "Discussions About OSC" forum, and it tends to move a bit more slowly. More young people, too, as a whole. This side moves pretty quick, and there is a smattering of all sorts -- US, European, Australian, Canadian, Asian, South American (but nobody posting from Africa or Antarctica, so far as I know), students, homemakers, professionals, craftspeople, pro- and con- on just about every topic, what have you.

Pretty much the only requirements are to "speak with passion and listen with respect." People also try to use Standard English rules for grammar and spelling, both as a sign of respect and to make life for those who speak English as a second (or more!) language easier. I've noticed that you tend not to capitalize, and you might catch some flack for that. *grin Usually in the form of pie-throwing, if I recall correctly. But if you'd be gentle and gracious enough to humor us on that point, you'll find some fervent thanks all around.

But now you have to tell us more about you. All I know so far is that you are from Toronto, have a stellar appreciation for science fiction, and have some vaguely defined history of a romantic relationship with a prior Hatracker (or Jatrequero, as some say). Fascinating.

Feel free to skip any overly personal details, of course, but tell us more about you!

*hands thread over to b boy [Smile]

Wow, thanks for the welcome. I get back from camping this weekend to find this. How awesome, I don't think that's ever happened before! Okay, note taken on the use of capitals, and I'm with you on the proper grammar, spelling and respect. Thanks for the tips ssasse [Smile]

I'm not a breakdancer (sadly. maybe I would be *more* cool haha). My name happens to start with a "B" and I was tired of using my old internet handle (the beginning of which sounds a little too much like bugger).

Without giving away too much of my, uh, mystique, I'm not sure what to say about myself. I'm a capricorn, have completed 26.5 full orbits of the sun, have an Honours BSc in Biology, Chemistry and English, and work in freshwater research / resource management.

As for my tryst with a Hatracker, all I'll say is that it was short lived, but steamy and ended amicably when we let ourselves lose touch because perfection like that can't be expected to continue forever, except in my mind, of course (and hopefully his/hers). [/sappiness]

I like science fiction and gaming and computers and gadgets, but I also spend a lot of time unplugged and out in the bush or on the water, far, far away from the rest of the humans. Anyways, thanks for giving me space to introduce myself a little. I'm sure you'll learn lots more about me as I find my way around the forum, and vice versa.

b boy.

b boy... welcome! Funny - we're capricorn's from (i think) the same year + similar in terms of enjoying the advances but taking time to appreciate what we're 'advancing' from... I'm pretty new myself but look forward to reading your posts.

You seem like a pretty cool chap, B Boy (please pardon my capitalization...it's just a habit with me, I'll try and remember if you prefer lower-case, if you care at all). Welcome:) Hope you'll like it here.

And since I'm never one to miss an opportunity to heap praises on ssasse, while you may be a pretty cool chap, you're definitely not a cool enough chap to have earned a personal introduction from her...in fact, you'd have to achieve a virtual acme of awesomeness for that to happen. Generally a hopeless cause. I hope you can adjust to the disappointment [Wink]

cmc: I think you're in the year previous to mine, my bare bottom graced the world in January. Interestingly, most people think I'm 16. One lady thought I was 10. Do you share this trait? Looking forward to reading (more) of your posts also [Smile]

I'm easy on the capitalization, Rakeesh. My 3 year old nephew thinks I'm the virtual acme of awesomeness... but seeing as how I'm sure ssasse may not share his views (he's smart, but no Bean), I'll keep your experience in mind anytime I think about wanting a personal intro from her [Smile]

Jeesh: Hm. My windows are mostly south facing, but ground level so not overly interesting. Is Tante an artist? J/k.. thanks for the welcome! and to blackwolv (move away from the spiders!) and The Captain also.

b boy - YES! I'm often mistaken for being much younger than I am when people first see me... Often people don't even believe me when I tell them the truth!!

I had a business dinner two weeks ago... I was with all men over 50 and myself. The entire table was carded when we ordered beverages that require carding with our meals. I somehow doubt it was the guys that prompted this necessity...

I don't mind, though, I just hope I don't end up like Dorian Grey when I'm older! ; )

I'm the opposite. Everyone thinks I'm older than I am. When I got my walking cast (12 then and now) one of the ladies asked if I had my liscense yet. I almost burst out laughing. A few old family friends have asked me what Colleges I've applied to so far. LOL

Jeesh - Give it 10 years... Keep living healthy (or is it healthily or what?) and maybe you'll be in the same boat. ; )

Triple major? Ye gods! [Angst]

But since one of them is chemistry, I guess you're probably ok. [Wink]

Mostly south facing? Are you that close to the North Pole? You wacky Canadians, you'll live anywhere! [Cool]
