Back in 1999-2000, Stan Lee (co-creator of pretty much all the Marvel Comics super-heroes people on the street actually know by name) decided to get in on the dot.com boom with "Stan Lee Media"...this website would showcase brand new super-hero creations by Mr. Lee, in hopes of making money with the lucrative media tie-in rights.
(Didn't pan out that way!)
One of the new characters introduced was... THE ACCUSER! Formerly a corrupt lawyer in a crime-ridden city, he offers a prayer of death bed repentence. In answer, he's given a super-powered wheelchair that turns into buzz-saw armor! Hoody hoo!

How is it ironic? From what I understand, Lee doesn't see a penny from anything Marvel does and is thus poor. Is this not true?

Lee started the site back when it looked like making one's own dot.com business was the way to make a quick fortune...and the exact opposite happened.
I didn't mention anything about his current relationship with Marvel. But since you bring it up, he received a settlement of $10 million from Marvel for the profits of Marvel's recent movies.
