Its driving me crazy. I know I read that sucker before and I want to again. I want some ideas from it. I am pretty sure it was french.
Its start off with some people in a basement of a castle, partying, when the nuclear war starts and ends and they survive. They must start all over without technology.

Oh, I've heard of that. Might have read it, I don't remember. No idea what the title was, but if you wanted confirmation it exists, you've got it.

mm, The Postman -- good book, bad movie. Sean McMullen's Greatwinter books are pretty good too, but those take place several centuries after the apocalypse, and focuses on the societies that have developed.
Another good one is Warday -- the story is told in documentary form by a pair of travelers 5 years after a nuclear war. I don't think that's the one you're looking for, though.
