I met this man ( link saturday at the Imagine Peace festival. He recently returned from a year as a soldier in Iraq, now he is walking 500 through Utah to promote awareness of what's goind on in Iraq and build a movement to bring the troops home. He's a really cool guy who just doesn't match any stereotypes. He has that squeaky clean Mormon look about him, yet he's doing something that most people would consider quite radical. He has alot of courage to be doing this in the reddest state in the Union.

On his website he says,

quote:
Since I’ve started, I’ve been called liar, lazy, traitor, unpatriotic, and a “mother’s worst nightmare.” In contrast, the worst thing a fellow soldier has said to me so far is that he doesn’t agree with me.
During my years as a peace activist, I've heard all those things as well. For the life of me, I can't understand why people react so negatively to people who are working for peace.

Interesting Effort.

My only qualm is that he does not specifically say how he wants to bring the troops home. Does he sponsor the immediate return of all troops? Or does he think we have taken too long to win this war. Or finally, does he simply support more effective administration in this war, so the objective can be won faster and open the door for troops to return?

Or does he simply want all those who wish for our troops speedy return to join his walk?

I just can't see where he is coming from TBH.

Some don't consider that "working for peace," although, for the life of me, I can't understand why people react so strongly to peace activists, either.

Is that rhetorical?
