I didn't want to post this on the Lost Season 3 discussion since I'm not quite done with season 1 yet and don't want any spoilers -- but this show KICKS BUTT!!!! Wow, I wish I'd noticed it years ago. I'm glad it came up in our discussion of Heroes. Just for the record -- Lost is MUCH better than Heroes and, IMHO, doesn't move nearly as slowly. Or maybe it's because I'm watching all these episodes back to back with no commercials. I don't know, but the plot grabbed me from episode one with no reservations and as the mystery unfolds in each new episode I just want more and more.

A general thanks to Hatrack for cluing me in to this show. [Smile]

Lost for me was like TV on crack for season 1-midway through season 2. Enjoy the pacing while you can, you will eventually hit the slowly stifling wall of convaluted story telling.

I think with the 16 episode seasons starting next year, the stories should pick up pace again. No more filler episodes.

Its probably why HBO and the BBC put out such neat dramas, shorter seasons.

They're both awesome. But I gotta say, I was way more into Heroes for most of this past season of Lost till probably the last third of so of the season, when Lost became awesome again.

Lost Season 1 >= Heroes
Lost Season 2 <<< Heroes
Lost Season 3 <= Heroes

You are in the golden age of Lost, Christine, where you think the writers actually know where they are going, and you think that the mysteries will some day be addressed in a satisfying way.

In Season 2, you will most likely lose that trust, and realize that the writers are just adding more questions because they have no idea what the answers to the original questions are. "What the hell?" will become a standard phrase muttered during episodes, as you get more and more frustrated with a story that goes NOWHERE. You will most likely ask yourself "Why did I watch that?" after most episodes.

In the beginning of Season 3, you will come very close to abandoning the whole stinking pile of crap, but you'll be constantly pulled back just enough to watch the next one, hoping it gets better. Then it actually does start getting better, at least enough that you aren't angry at the end of the episodes, and are generally glad you watched them. By the end of season 3, you still don't think that the writers know where they are going, but you are at least enjoying the journey.

At least that's my prediction [Smile] .

Dont listen to them Christine!!! [Smile] Just to let you know I have a group of eight Lost addicted friends and none of us has found any of the seasons to be a dissapointment. Granted the show did move slowly for the latter half of season two and beginning of season three but it really does make up for it in the second half of the third season.

And I for one am thoroughly convinced in the 'master plan'. There is no way that these writers could possibly have so many plots on the go to not have them tied up in the end. Plus, I remember reading interviews with them during the shooting of season one where they gave hints and clues to things we have only got answered now!!! You can really tell by listening to them that they know what they're doing. They recently announced the plan for three more seasons to wrap everything up and according to the producers this decision was reached with studio execs as the writers knew they only needed 48 more episodes to wrap up their story.

So please Christine, even when it gets slow in places and even seems like the answers are not coming, be patient. The rest of us are only up to season three and can promise you its been a hell of a ride. [Smile]

Season 2 is not that bad when you watch it straight through on DVD. I only just started watching Lost last November, so I got to watch the first two seasons that way. It would have been very frustrating to have to watch Season 2 a week at a time, though, so I can see why people who experienced that would still be upset.

I'm hearing what you're saying about the writers moving aimlessly through season two, but I'm struggling to believe it. If they don't know where they are going, they sure have (so far) done an awesome job of convincing me that they do and that there are answers behind all the mysteries if I am patient enough. They really seem to have the character's back stories well conceived and the further along I go, the more I am seeing connections between the characters.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see. Netflix should be sending me the last disc of season 1 tonight and next week I should start on Season 2. Unfortunately, unless I can figure out where all of the Season 3 episodes are on ABC's website, I will have to wait until fall for them to come out on DVD. (I looked on their website because someone told me they were up but quite honestly, ABC's web site is a bit noisy and difficult to navigate. Plus, their episode viewer wasn't working yesterday.)

I don't think it's that they don't(or didn't) know where they were going, to me it just seems like they started dragging things out a bit in an attempt to lengthen the running of the show. Everything still felt cohesive, there was just a lot of filler.

Well, I just finished Season 2 and it was definitely as good as the first season. I was not disappointed at all, nor did I feel it moved slowly or that the writers did not know where they were going. Everything seems to be building up to something that they are laying out a little bit at a time.

Of course, I watched them 4 episodes at a time (4 on a DVD) with no commercial interruptions. :=)

SPOILER WARNING: DETAILS FROM SEASON 2

There was a moment in the first DVD when they took 3 episodes to conclude the standoff between Jack and Desmond. That was annoying. I also never liked Anna Lucia's character and was not unhappy to see her go. No one ever should have given that woman a gun. I never forgave her for killing Shannon, and that's saying something because I didn't like Shannon very much either. :=)

I was disappointed that Sayid (sp?) took a more backseat role in this season. I hope he comes back in the third season a bit more.

As a mother, I had to laugh about some of the things with Claire and her baby. I love that he sleeps all night at just a few weeks old. I guess that can happen, but I hate her for it! LOL :=) I'm not sure how she managed to run off for a few hours while her son was very sick when she was the only thing on the island that could feed him. Having nursed a newborn, I know how often they need to eat and when they're sick, they need the fluid more than ever. I guess I have to forgive them for a few discrepancies from real life. I probably wouldn't have cared if I didn't have a 1-year-old and one on the way. :=)

The ending of season 2 was great. The only thing I'm upset about is that season 3 isn't out on DVD yet so I can't watch it. (I looked on ABC's web site a couple weeks ago and they only have the last few episodes on line.) I hope it comes out in time for me to watch season 4 live. With it starting in February, that gives them plenty of time.

Anyway, just thought I'd weigh in. Hopefully, I can join the current discussion on Lost when season 4 starts.

Season 3 is available on ITunes, but that will probably get a little costly.

I recently watched all three seasons back to back within a week. Xavier's prediction was absolutely spot-on for me. A number of times in season 2 I was *this close* to giving it up, but continued on with guarantees from some friends that it would get better. Season 3 was a great improvement, except for the episode about Nikki and Paulo and their spiders - what was up with that?
