Does anybody know of any free, anonymous service that will let me upload (and have a few friends download) small files ( around 20 kb)?

There are sites like putfile out there, I can't really search for them as they are blocked from work. I don't know if you can restrict them, so the yahoo (or gmail) account may be a better choice.

Right. I was thinking about google pages, but I want to avoid the secondary backup email address.
Concerning restrictions, I don't need to keep outsiders from seeing it, it's just that I don't anticipate many downloads.

www.writely.com might actually do what you're looking for. It allows for you to be able to have your friends edit your work, and open it as Word. But it only works for text.

A geocities account should be sufficient. The hourly bandwidth is only 5MB or so, but for 20kb files it should be fine. The uploader also isn't the best, but it gets the job done.

Grouper has worked for me in the past. IT is designed for people with your needs.
It acts like Kazaa, but it is encrypted, private, and you create groups who have access to the files.
So if you and 2 friends want to share files, you can create a private group that only you three belong to. Anyone can download any files that someone else has uploaded.
Uploaded is a bad word. You choose which folders to share, and those are considered uploads. It works quite nice.
Last time I used Grouper you could not share mp3 files. I used a batch rename utility to rename .mp3 to .wav, then the other person used the same program to rename it to .mp3.
We only used that feature once. Other members in the groups can listen to songs on your hard drive (mp3) but cannot download them.

It tends to be used for bigger files, but you can just upload the file and they'll give you a link where you can download it again, and email addresses are optional.

If you don't mind using AOL, which you may very well mind, they're pretty generally horrible about everything, you can use http://www.xdrive.com/, it's a free 5g of online storage that you and your friends can all access.
