Scroogled
quote:
Google controls your e-mail, your videos, your calendar, your searches… What if it controlled your life?

By Cory Doctorow

Although clearly fictitious, it doesn't seem to be too much of a stretch between where we are now and what is presented here.

And the pictures throughout the piece freak me out, with the Google ad being so friendly, yet the implications being so sinister.

What do you think? It this possible?

A really fun article. I think Google is at the point where it's getting too big for people to feel really comfortable. I mean Microsoft is bad 'n all, but at least it's not growing.

Actually, I think Scroogled was way more feasible. Sovereign corporations is a cute conceit, but it's not going to happen. Whereas the stuff in Scroogled is simple slippery slope stuff that's in the directly we're already slipping.

I don't know, I think there are more instances of formerly exclusive government domains being turned over to private enterprises than there is for Google sharing their databases with a government entity.

I'm thinking of the popularity of privately run detention facilities and the possibility of Social Security heading the same direction for the former, do we have any really good instances of the latter? I don't see the government collecting massive amounts of info being the same slope quite yet, until Google begins to climb into bed with them.
