I read this today. I thought it was pretty cool but could also be pretty scary at the same time. Could you imagine what it could do to something like warfare?

We already have nukes and pretty good stealth technology. While there are some kinda scary things that could be done with this, there doesn't seem to be much that is worse than anything we have already.

Well, right now it only cloaks for one target wavelength and not in the visible spectrum. Not that scary. Specially since moving from one wavelength to cover more than one will be REALLY hard, and will also be necesary if you want to make something truely invisible. If the current technology could move into the visible spectrum it would only make the object not show up for a certain color of light. Shine white light on it and the rest of the visible colors will still show it.

Not like it really matters. From the shape of the rings, I don't really see something like this being feasible for use in ground vehicles, it's something we'd use for either ships or planes. We only really do night bombing for our stealth bombers, and they're already fairly invisible by technological standards.

This is something we might consider for the next generation of stealth bombers, but to be honest, radar cross section and heat exhaust are more important than actual visibility, given night bombing and precision weapons that can be released miles away.

Same thing for tank shells that change direction in mid flight. Invisibility, unless it's ULTIMATE invisibility, is only a little bitty improvement, and might not even be worth the cost.

Whoa, that's just plain crazy, the future is now. Transporting and Cloaking shields. Where's Gene Roddenberry when we need him most - don't answer that it makes me sad???

Well, clearly all we need to do is reverse the polarity of the deflector dish.

Nah, we have to get ionisers aligned with the right coupling.

Before we try that, I'd try reversing the warp field's polarity and then feeding the plasma flow regulators through the phaser couplers, then shunt power through the phased energy matrix to the environmental systems.

I mean, might as well try the simplest thing first.
