I know I'll probably get flack from some people about this, but I really just can't help it. I mean, it's funny. Again, I do respect, and even really like the kind of people that put together costumes for these event. I even want to go to the con, but don't have the time or money. It just cracks me up is all.
(by the way, I also consider myself a huge nerd, just not in the same way (that is to say, not a more or less way, or better or worse way, just a different way))

I'm mixed. I personally would be laughing if it was me he was insulting- much like I would enjoy a flame war with a friend on hatrack or other forums. However, I know for a fact that not everyone takes jokes like that and can take offense, and people can be inspired by Triumph to insult people as well.
But personally, yeah, I do find it funny. Guilty.

That video's pretty funny. I don't really laugh at the people who dress up and some of the costumes are down right amazing but I doubt I'll ever be caught dead dressing up for a movie premiere unless it's a tux and I made the movie?
Never saw the video till this thread thanks for posting again for everyone.

There's a huge difference between dressing up for a movie premier and dressing up for a con! I mean, they're both on the same level of nerdiness, but there's a lot different. I swear.
/dressed up for pirates with fifteen other people.

Not trying to offend but I always thought it was more acceptable to dress up for a Con than for a movie. I don't know if I've ever seen anyone dress up for a movie???
It's good to know that it is an acceptable thing to do though???

All I can think of when someone dresses up to go to a movie is "What's this? You're wearing the shirt of the band you're going to see? Don't be that guy."
Only Much More So.
I don't agree with the quote actually, but I do think about it.

That's what creeps me out about cons, you're *sposed* to dress up, and spend all sorts of time on a detailed costume to show off to other people who've done the same. I liked dressing up for the movie 'caues it's like saying "I'M A NERD!!! And proud of it."
edit: I mean, this type of con. Which, I don't have anything against, but I just can't get into it myself.

I didn't even click the link, and I know what you're talking about. Blackwolf the Dragon Master. Easily one of the funniest things ever.

I've witnessed people dress up for the midnight showings of big movies. All 3 Star Wars prequels I saw people dressed up (some really detailed, some not so much). The last two Matrix movies I saw people dressed up as both agents and people like Neo and Morpheus. The Lord of the Rings movies there were all sorts of outfits and such. I think those are all the main ones I recall seeing people dressed up at though.
I haven't ever been to a con or anything like, mainly because before now I haven't been in an area where a big con was occuring. At the moment, I am in a place where there is one, and I'm debating going. If I went though, I'd just be in my normal dress. I don't have the money for fancy costumes nor the desire to wear them.
