Liked the books when I was a kid. As an adult, haven't been able to re-read them -- too slow, and, I dunno, the kids themselves seem kinda dull.
I could see the books working OK as a movie, since they're not crammed full of action and would be easier to adapt. (Unlike Narnia or Harry Potter books, where huge chunks of the books get left out.) If they have a director who's good at creating atmosphere and they don't throw in too many car chases, the movies could be pretty good.

I think there is plenty of action in them, and as long as they get the casting right, and spend some time on developing the characters, it will be great.
