So I have a bit of an idea that I'm curious with trying out.

Many times when trying to create the utopian society, I find that the "solution" creates problems in and of itself. In this thread I want to see what types of problems would arise with various solutions, what solutions the majority of people find neccesary, and how many solutions it would take to make the utopian society. If anything, this is for my own knowledge, but it'd be fun for discussion in any case.

The rules for posting are as follows.

A "round" starts with someone posting an idea that they think would be needed in a Utopian society with an explanation as to why they think it would be needed. That's all they can post. The next person then points out the problems that would still exist with that solution (try to keep it related to that solution, but you can say something like 'XXXXXXX would still exist"), and provides enough explanation as to their thought process. And then the next person posts a solution to the problem the previous person found, and then the next person posts a problem, then solution, then problem and so forth.

If you are the first positive type post, you put 1. If you are the second, you put 2. If you are teh third, you put 3. This is so we can easily reference them, like saying "in solution 3" or "in problem 2" and the like.

At any time you can use your turn to take a couple steps back, the minimum being 6. You would type in "Break off Solution X," and provide a reason as to why. Then, anything from solution X and forward gets deleted, which means the next poster would be posting a solution to Problem X - 1. This way, if we encounter something that has caused more problems than can be fixed, then we can do something about it.

If we get to 25 solutions or more, you can use "Clear." The round then is over, and a new one has begun. The next poster the posts an idea to make society closer to a utopia.

My goal with that is to see how efficient we can become as the discussion continues.

I'll start the first.

Solution 1. Create an unlimited, environmentally safe energy source. By doing this, we improve the planet's health and combat global warming; we save money on various fuel sources and power plants; we pave the way for an exponential growth in space exploration.

2: Problems:

Assuming your source of energy is possible and assuming that either a select few will control the energy or the masses will have access to the energy and granting that energy can be easily utilized for weapons and/or destruction, then we are left with two dystopic scenarios.

Scenario 1: Unlimited power is left in the hands of a few (governments, corporations, or people). That power can be abused. Human history shows that power corrupts. The controlling entities can use the power to control the masses, exterminate people, or deny power/energy to competitors in ideas, business, or politics.

Scenario 2: If the power is available to the masses, then there is a very high probability that a religious or some other nut job (or extremist group) will access that power to create a devastating weapon to create their own personal utopia.

Out of the billions of people on the earth, there is certainly someone with the brainpower and belief system that wiping off 99% of the population is a good thing who could harness the unlimited power.

Edit: to change words for clarity.

3. Solution

The energy source is not run by ANY corporation, or any one government. Instead, it is regulated by a commitee composed of 30 individuals elected democratically, five from each continent.

Said commitee is responsible for working with individual governments that the commitee approves with 2/3rds or better vote, and the U.N. agrees on with a 75 percent or better vote.

Each government that seeks to obtain said energy source must make law that no one with the exception of the commitee has the right or the ability to deny access to the energy source over another individual, groups of indivuals, or companies or corporations. Neither do they have the right to attack any power plants providing this energy source in their own country, or neighboring countries without the approval of both the commitee and the U.N.
